Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Executive Director, as part of the interdisciplinary team, the Regional Educator(s) Continuing Care:
- Provides leadership in the development and management of regional education programs.
- Provides and facilitates education activities which enhance knowledge, skills and competencies of all staff to meet current and future needs.
- Creates education supports for residents/patients and families, the public and health care workers as required.
- Collaborates with the Continuing Care Team on education support for projects initiated by other members.
- Is responsible for resource development and management, research application and integration and policy and procedure development.
- LTC Educator: Is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the regional education for the LTC/Personal Care Home (PCH) staff.
- RHASC Educator: Acts as a primary resource for RHASC programs (Geriatric Outreach teams, Day Hospital. PRIME, Pulmonary Rehab Program, inpatient rehab units & Support Services to Seniors) and geriatrics education for other programs and services within the Region, City and Province to support information sharing and quality care for older adults.
Experience
- Minimum of five years recent related experience in health discipline role(s) relevant to the position.
- Previous experience in teaching education and program development and evaluation is preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or other health discipline required.
- Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
SPECIAL TRAINING:
- Advanced educational preparation and/or experience in adult education required.
- Certifications in Gerontology preferred (e.g. CAN Certification in Gerontology) or experience in advanced practice in geriatrics.
- Knowledge and experience with Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment and Dementia Approach education such as P.I.E.C.E.S. TM, Gentle Persuasive Approach or Dementiability an asset.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Individual is responsible for maintaining and providing proof of active registration on the register of their professional association.
Qualifications and Skills
- Competency in applicable digital technology application and in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Power Point, LMS training systems and/or other presentation software, SharePoint, Video editing, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in complex situations.
- Evidence of knowledge of the principles of adult learning and teaching strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to function creatively and independently.
- Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.

Physical Requirements
- Position will require flexible work location dependent upon demands.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
