Regional Driver Manager - Chemical Manufacturing Plant (Oil-&-Gas), Toronto ON
The Regional Driver Manager is responsible for leading a diverse team of 18 – 25 professional truck drivers located across 7 – 10 Company manufacturing sites. The Regional Driver Manager will also provide technical expertise for the entire Company Private Fleet in areas such as equipment/maintenance, training, safety, or logistics technology (Fleet Management Systems, ELD, etc). The team of Regional Driver Managers will work collaboratively to provide standardization across the entire Company Private Fleet, implementing effective practices and using data-based metrics to drive performance improvements in safety, Private Fleet utilization, and overall cost. The Regional Driver Manager will lead drivers remotely, partnering and collaborating with Company manufacturing plant managers. Regular visits to all sites are expected to drive engagement with the team and ensure safe, compliant delivery of Company products to customers.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 10+ years’ work experience required, with 5 years in the ground transportation industry preferred.
- Intermediate level Microsoft Office expertise required.
- 3+ years of previous supervisory experience in Transportation or Chemical industry or Bulk liquids.
- Must possess a valid passport.
- Must have flexibility to work inside and outside (office and field settings).
- Has a collaborative work ethic.
- Experience in supervising within a unionized environment is an asset.
- Valid or previously held CDL is an asset.
- Able to meet a minimum of 50% travel that is required.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Performance Management of Team - 20%
- Establishes private fleet performance goals and communicates them throughout the driver pool.
- Creates recognition/incentive programs around meeting or exceeding individual level metrics.
- Conducts quarterly and annual performance management meetings with drivers.
- Manages personal issues – vacation/time off requests, providing coaching, managing personnel and equipment issues.
- Works in partnership with manufacturing plant managers as required.
- Central point of contact for drivers and local dispatch.
- Creates a positive work environment supporting and recognizing employees for professional and personal growth.
EH&S - 20%
- Works collaboratively with Tech Services for NOV/incident investigation to identify root causes and implement actions to prevent recurrence.
- Conducts customer complaint/NCR investigations to identify root causes and implement actions to prevent recurrence.
- Regularly reviews ELD data to proactively identify areas needing improvement.
- Understands DOT Safer/Basics data to identify actions for improvement.
- Establishes Company-wide LFI/Flash reports and shares them.
- Conducts EH&S audits at plants and establishes an education program for drivers around DOT Safer/Basics metrics.
- Implements high visibility tracking for key performance metrics at the plant level.
- Establishes and implements driver safety training/topics - weekly and monthly.
Hire & Onboard - 10%
- Submits hiring requisitions, conducts candidate screening, and chooses who to interview.
- Interviews candidates and evaluates them.
- Selects and offers jobs to successful candidates.
- Ensures drivers are re-evaluated/fit for duty for any medical issues impacting safe vehicle operation.
- Maintains license status, endorsements, annual physical, and hazmat training & endorsement.
Fleet Maintenance - 10%
- Provides input into maintenance strategy.
- Conducts maintenance shop audits and ensures standardized maintenance approach.
- Ensures all mandatory DOT inspections are completed on time.
Training - 10%
- Contributes to driver training program including driver training manual.
- Monitors training compliance and refreshes training materials as needed.
Cost – 10%
- Owns cost centers related to the private fleet.
- Budgeting, monitoring costs, and looking for opportunities to reduce costs.
Environmental, Health & Safety Responsibilities:
- Leads a driver-centric Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Maintains equipment and driver compliance records.
- Oversees and investigates truck accidents/incidents and prepares reports.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Employees are frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must be physically capable of spending long hours sitting in an office environment.
- Must be “fit for duty”.
