POSITION: Reference & Electronic Resources Librarian

DEPARTMENT: Wiggins Library, Campbell University

STATUS: Full Time

Position Summary:

The Reference and Electronic Resources Librarian will act as the library liaison to various academic departments’ students and faculty (primarily in STEM fields) delivering reference services and information literacy instruction, creating instructional materials in a variety of formats, and developing subject related collections. The incumbent will work with a collaborative Reference and Instruction team to develop forward-looking, user-focused library services. The incumbent is also responsible for the acquisition and management of the main library’s electronic resources collection. This full-time, 12-month non-tenure track faculty position reports to the Head of Research and Instruction Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, deliver, and assess information literacy instruction to a range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs and through various instruction modes, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online synchronous and asynchronous instruction.
  • Develop instructional materials, research guides, and online tutorials.
  • Act as library liaison to academic departments, including STEM departments such as Pharmacy and Engineering, to assist them with collection development and instructional needs.
  • Provide in-depth research consultations with students and faculty.
  • Perform general reference duties, to include one evening per week and some Saturdays.
  • Manage electronic resource acquisitions for Wiggins Memorial Library and the Curriculum Materials Media Center in the main library.
  • Review and negotiate license agreements with publishers and vendors, working with the University’s General Counsel, as needed.
  • Coordinate and perform access-related problem resolution, respond to patron and staff reports, and work with library and vendor staff to resolve access issues.
  • Serve on library and university committees as assigned.
  • Contribute actively to the profession through continuous learning and presentations, representing Campbell University locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Uphold and abide by all Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX and Information Security, including FERPA and other state and federal guidelines.
  • Other job-related duties, activities and responsibilities may change, or be assigned by the Head of Research and Instruction Services or the Dean of the Library, at any time, with or without notice.

Education/Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, or relevant professional work experience, desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of information resources in science, technology, and engineering, desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key issues, emerging pedagogy trends, and best practices in information literacy instruction and assessment, desired.
  • Experience with electronic resource acquisition and management, desired.
  • Experience in higher education, desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective interpersonal, oral, written, and online communication skills.
  • Familiarity with instructional and presentation techniques in a variety of media and formats.
  • Ability to work independently as well as function effectively and collaboratively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Forward thinking and creative.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and standard methods of digital communication.
  • Ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology.
  • Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a busy and changing environment.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
