The City of Iqaluit is looking for an experienced individual to join the Iqaluit Recreation team as a Recreation Program Coordinator!

Department: Recreation

Salary: $72,114.71 per annum, 35hrs/week

Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum

The City of Iqaluit’s Recreation Department is looking for a Recreation Program Coordinator. Reporting to the Recreation Services Manager, the Recreation Program Coordinator specializes in developing, coordinating, promoting and implementing a wide variety of recreational programs, activities, and services. The Recreation Program Coordinator will coordinate camp, youth centre programs, sports and physical literacy programs, teen programs, elders programs, and other recreation and leisure programs for families, children, adolescents, adults, and elders.

The Recreation Program Coordinator acts as a liaison with community organizations and provides support to community sport and recreation groups and will coordinate various Recreation Department special events. The incumbent will assist in training staff and supervise as many as 20 employees at any given time. The Recreation Program Coordinator will complete budget preparations and write funding and grant applications to access funding for various recreation programs and special projects.

The ideal candidate will have the following required qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma from an accredited University or College in Recreation and Leisure Studies or a similar program
  • A minimum of three years experience leading recreational programs (i.e., children's camps, Seniors/Elders programs, sport programs, cultural activities)
  • A minimum of three years experience leading a team in a supervisory role
  • Experience organizing community events
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification

The ideal candidate will also have the following preferred skills and knowledge:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Knowledge of maintaining filing systems and financial record keeping as applied to recreation programs
  • Project Management experience or certification
  • Experience working front line in children’s camp and/or youth centre settings
  • Experience working in a northern environment and an understanding of the Inuit culture
  • Excellent administrative, organizational skills, communication, interpersonal, and computer skills are essential
  • A class five driver’s license is required
  • NCCP coaching certification and “High Five” certification
  • The ability to communicate in one or more of Nunavut’s official languages

Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered.

All relevant certifications are required at time of application. The successful candidate would be required to submit a Criminal Record Check.
