Location: Mahogany Beach Club

Objective:

The Safety Coordinator/Maintenance Worker position will work under the direction of the Facilities Manager. This is a dual-role position with approximately a 50/50 safety-to-maintenance worker ratio. The Safety Coordinator/Maintenance Worker will be responsible for providing safety leadership for Mahogany staff as well as community operations. This position will work closely with management to coordinate day-to-day safety requirements as well as the daily, monthly, and yearly safety functions of the Mahogany Homeowners Association. This role will also provide support for the maintenance of day-to-day functions including the general maintenance and cleanliness of the Mahogany Homeowners Association facilities, parks, and lake as well as maintaining the operation of our outdoor recreation and leisure facilities, communicating with members of the maintenance department and other staff, and ensuring the parks and facilities are ready for member use. The position is responsible for overseeing all facility maintenance operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safety manual to ensure compliance with all legislation.
  • Develop and implement weekly, monthly, and annual safety checks for all departments.
  • Ensure 95% of staff are First Aid certified.
  • Maintain the safe and efficient operation of recreation and leisure facilities, parks, and lakes.
  • Provide safety monthly statistical reporting.
  • Provide safety leadership to the employees and subcontractors at all times.
  • Assist with onboarding all new staff with safety training.
  • Ensure attendance and participation in all safety meetings.
  • Ensure the safety of residents by improving our services and increasing knowledge of safety features in place.
  • Formulate and suggest work safety standards, and enforce procedures. Meet compliance and reporting requirements of legislation.
  • Establish and direct activities of the safety committee.
  • Manage & maintain a preventative maintenance program on all equipment.
  • Perform ice installation/removal and maintenance including operation of the ice maintenance equipment and the ice re-surfacer in accordance with health and safety procedures.
  • Monitor ice conditions, lake, and building systems and record readings.
  • Patrol building to check for problems, safety hazards, or improper operation of facility and equipment; ensure corrective action and/or escalate issues as required.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all users/visitors to the facility by answering questions, resolving issues, and documenting incidents as required.
  • Perform monthly preventative maintenance program checks to emergency fire equipment to ensure safe operating parameters.
  • Complete maintenance inventory counts and compile supply orders for approval.
  • Regularly monitor and clean facilities including change rooms, washrooms, viewing areas, and foyers.
  • Maintain the quality of the beach and lake, including operating the motorboat, RTV ice resurfacer, and its implements.
  • Provide facility monitoring/set-up/take-down services for special events and large-scale recreational programs such as public skating, trade shows, sport programs, tournaments, shows, etc.
  • Perform winter maintenance duties such as snow removal, salting, and sanding outdoor entrances and exits surrounding the facility.
  • Perform summer maintenance duties such as sand raking, general cleaning, and maintenance operations.
  • Perform lake water management processes such as water testing and water quality management tasks.
  • Complete required incident/accident reports on the appropriate forms and submit to the Supervisor.
  • Participate in department meetings, initiatives, and training activities.
  • Act in accordance with federal and provincial legislation as well as corporate and departmental policies and procedures. Demonstrate commitment to ensuring a respectful and safe workplace.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work with limited supervision and work within general policy guidelines.
  • Previous safety coordinator experience.
  • Work a minimum of two closing shifts per week (2-10pm).
  • Minimum 1-year experience in a similar position.
  • Courteous and helpful to staff and clients.
  • Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
  • Reliable and hardworking.
  • Ability to multitask, self-motivate, and work well with others.
  • Display sound judgement, and work within general policy and procedure guidelines.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Driver's License is required.

Working Conditions:

  • Weekend and evening may be required.
  • Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment.
  • Working in winter and summer weather conditions.
  • Physical requirements related to this position include, but are not limited to, the ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull heavy amounts of weight.
  • Operate assigned equipment/vehicles.
  • Required to complete a vulnerable sector check.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $49,000.00 per year
