Recovery Officer (Permanent, Full-time)

Location: Peterborough, ON

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Rate of Pay: Dependent upon experience

Position Description

As a Recovery Officer, you will:


  • Recommend and maintain effective collection procedures on those accounts that are delinquent and/or written off.
  • Act as a Credit Union representative dealing with attorneys, courts, trustees, police, collection agencies, insurance adjustors, auto repossessors and employers as required.
  • Responsible for court/government account seizures, and the proper legal repossession of collateral securing a delinquent loan or mortgage.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of that collateral while in the Credit Union's possession, and the legal disposition of that collateral in the best interest of the Credit Union. Must obtain prior approval and report all such actions to the Vice President, Credit.
  • Responsible for determining and recommending to Vice President, Credit those accounts that are to be listed with a collection agency.
  • Responsible for the accurate preparation of court and bankruptcy documents.
  • Review the monthly Loan Loss Provision report and compile a listing of securities, reporting the results to the Vice President, Credit.
  • Make recommendations to the Vice President, Credit regarding charge-offs (loans, mortgages, LOCs and account overdrafts) to the reserves.
  • Prepare quarterly written off report.
  • Prepare reports for the Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team.
  • Proactively investigate new recovery techniques.
  • Perform, as required, the duties of a Financial Services Representative which includes rewriting delinquent loans in accordance with established procedures.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12 or equivalent with three years of related experience
  • Five to seven years of administration experience, preferably at a financial institution.
  • Three to five years of lending administration would be an asset.
  • Five to seven years of prior collection experience preferably at a financial institution.
  • Three to five years of experience as a lender is required.
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive in order to provide the highest quality of service
  • Ability to be thorough, accurate and attend to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and work under deadline pressure
