Position: Receptionist
Wage: $18.87 – $20.76 (Pending Education & Experience)
Location: Recreation Centre
Responsible To: Recreation Coordinator

Position Summary

The Receptionist is responsible for providing support services in both clerical and secretarial areas of the Administration and performs reception duties. The Receptionist functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Garden River First Nation, and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.

Duties

  1. Welcoming visitors by greeting them in person or on the telephone, answering or referring inquiries;
  2. Maintaining a safe and clean reception area and maintaining equipment;
  3. Receiving, sorting, and distributing all incoming mail to the appropriate personnel;
  4. Monitoring fax machine for incoming faxes and sending outgoing faxes as needed;
  5. Filing of legal files;
  6. Scheduling of appointments;
  7. Ensuring office is locked up before leaving for the day;
  8. Preparing travel/accommodations for Chief and Council;
  9. Assisting with clerical responsibilities with other departments as required;
  10. Performing other related duties as may be required and assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Required one-year college diploma in a related field;
  2. Required one-year related experience;
  3. Ability to use good judgement in assessing difficult situations;
  4. Flexibility required to keep pace with an ever-changing environment;
  5. Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge of the First Nation cultural values and traditions;
  6. Ability to be consistent and display a positive/helpful attitude;
  7. Willingness to accept changes in work practices and technology;
  8. Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines;
  9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team;
  10. Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written;
  11. Excellent computer skills (including MS Word, Word Perfect, Excel, Internet, Email, Outlook);
  12. Ability to report for work as scheduled;
  13. Ability to attend work regularly;
  14. Must undergo a criminal record vulnerable sector check prior to employment (At Applicant Expense).
