As part of the ONxpress consortium, Alstom is proudly working to transform the collective mobility of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) through the On-Corridor Works project. The GO Expansion scope includes new electric locomotives, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications, and digital systems.

Purpose:

  • The Interlocking (IXL) and Signaling system is composed of Mechanical, Electromechanical, Electric, Electronic, and Software components aimed at ensuring safe movements of trains.
  • The purpose of the role is to act as a Technical Expert for a Signaling project, fitting the client's needs in terms of Quality, Cost, and Delivery.

Mission and Deliverables:

  • Member of the project engineering team.
  • Applies processes, methods, and tools as referenced by the project plans.
  • Supports the Chief Engineer and Engineering Director for identification of technical risks and definition of the system development strategy.
  • Under the direction of the Project Engineering Director, and in collaboration with the Chief Engineer, System Designers, and other System Architects, ensures quality, consistency, and on-time delivery of the design and specification according to the project strategy.
  • Leads the system design and specifications, defines the system architecture, and applies System Engineering techniques for:
    • System Design (conceptual design through critical thinking & holistic analysis; integration of end-users, experts, and CCN recommendations; phases concurrent engineering; ensures design for testability, cybersecurity, RAM, and safety; provides interface resolution and management).
    • Technical reviews & decisions.
    • System Specifications (Structured system specifications; development and integration of RAM, safety, cybersecurity, sub-system, software, hardware, and V&V needs; system modelling and requirements writing, management and traceability).
    • Application of verifications (document reviews, peer reviews).
    • Configuration Management.
  • Support project tender activities (evolutions & anomalies analysis, design & documentation support).
  • Participates in material selection and procurement as required for system delivery.
  • Alerts and reports on any event/risks that may impact system development.
  • Participates to the program CCB.
  • Keep informed of technology evolution through technological watch.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement (REX: Return of Experience, process, workload estimations/metrics, …).
  • Supports the Program Development Manager for workload estimations for the system design deliverables.
  • Promotes the Alstom Code of Ethics and adheres to the highest standards of ethical conduct.

Performance management:

  • Project QCD (Quality, Cost, and Delivery) commitment.
  • On-time delivery for IXL deliverables according to project planning and Document Master List (DML) (EDP - Engineering Delivery Performance).
  • Defect detected on IXL (DQI - Delivery Quality Indicator).
  • Cooperation and reactivity to support Root Cause Analysis Identification of contract variations (through traceability & coverage of requirements).

Requirements:

  • Good analytical skills and extensive experience in signaling application design & integration.
  • 10-16 years in relevant positions for railway signaling.
  • Knowledge of Rail Systems, safety principles, and signaling principles.
  • Knowledge of CROR, CENELEC, and AREMA standards.
  • Experience in relay interlocking, computer-based interlocking, or CBTC signaling systems.
  • Engineering Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Automation, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • P. Eng certification or eligible.
  • Knowledge of Alstom Signaling and IXL products.
  • SmartLock 400, Siemens GEO, ELIXS, EBITrack knowledge.
