Century Downs Racetrack and Casino is looking for a Racing Labourer III to join our Racing team.

The Racing Labourer III shall ensure that the stables and grounds are maintained appropriately to company standards. He/She will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of equipment safely and efficiently. Will provide a broad range of support in areas such as handwork, moving materials, clearing terrain, site preparation, shovelling, and heavy equipment operation and maintenance. The successful candidate will be expected to be reliable, have the utmost integrity, and possess exceptional leadership and customer service skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Performs duties in compliance with safety procedures, which includes the use of safety equipment. Workers are responsible for following safety procedures, identifying unsafe practices or conditions, and informing their supervisor of unsafe conditions.
  2. Completes all scheduled maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning duties assigned to this position within the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual inspection reports.
  3. Works as a team player under the guidance of the Racing Department Management.
  4. Adheres to all Century policy and procedures.
  5. Be able to take on the responsibilities of track maintenance (harrowing, watering, etc.) as instructed.
  6. Assesses equipment breakdowns and emergencies and coordinates their resolutions.
  7. Works with Track Superintendent and Management to ensure that stable area policies are being adhered to.
  8. Assists the Racing Labourer I & II as required or directed by Management.
  9. Operates equipment as per Health and Safety Standards.
  10. Works with outside contractors and suppliers: tractor repairs, dirt, sand, fibre for tracks.
  11. All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance and labour duties in a similar environment. Proven ability in performing tasks within specific deadlines and under pressure where problem-solving, troubleshooting, organizing, and prioritizing work is required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Previous maintenance and/or labour position experiences are considered an asset. Knowledge of racing or horse industry preferred. Minimum 2 years of experience operating the grader, heavy equipment such as forklift, tractor, and water truck required. Experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, painting, etc. is considered an asset.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid driver’s license with clear drivers abstract required. Basic first aid and fire prevention training considered an asset. Must be able to pass a criminal background check. Certificate or ticket in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical considered an asset.
