Job description

Fusion Pharmaceuticals, a member of the AstraZeneca Group, is a clinical-stage oncology company focused on developing next-generation radioconjugates (RCs) as precision medicines. Fusion connects alpha particle emitting isotopes to various targeting molecules to selectively deliver the alpha emitting payloads to tumors. Fusion’s clinical portfolio includes: FPI-2265 targeting prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) for metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer currently in a Phase 2 trial; FPI-1434 targeting insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor currently in a Phase 1 trial; FPI-2059, a small molecule targeting neurotensin receptor 1 (NTSR1), currently in a Phase 1 trial; and FPI-2068, a bispecific IgG-based EGFR-cMET targeted radioconjugate currently in a Phase 1 trial. In addition, Fusion is pursuing combination programs between RCs and DNA Damage Response Inhibitors (DDRis) and immune-oncology agents. Fusion has a fully operational Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliant state-of-the-art radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility to meet supply demand for Fusion's growing pipeline of RCs.

Fusion is seeking outstanding applicants for a R&D Laboratory Technician to support a broad range of preclinical drug development activities. This position is lab-based, and located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and report on in vitro bioassays and related molecular and biochemical assays.
  • Perform mammalian cell culture in support of biology group activities.
  • Establish tumour xenografts, and administer test articles to rodents by various routes including injection and oral gavage.
  • Perform histological assays on tissues (e.g. tissue embedding, processing, sectioning, and immunohistochemistry).
  • Conduct and report on therapeutic efficacy and biodistribution studies of radiopharmaceuticals using rodent models of cancer (or other disease indications of interest).
  • Document experimental procedures and results in an electronic notebook system
  • Maintain laboratory records (SOPs, SDS, chemical, radioisotope, biohazard, cell bank).
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Health Sciences, biological engineering, or a related field is required.
  • 2-5 years of work experience with mammalian cell culture, experience with general biochemical methods (e.g., protein quantification, ELISA, SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting, UV/VIS spectroscopy) and cell biological methods (eg. flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry).
  • Experience with histological techniques (handling/processing of FFPE and fresh frozen tissues, along with IHC and IHC-F staining techniques) is an asset.
  • Experience with lab animal experimentation and handling (tumor inoculations, rodent test article administration by intravenous, intraperitoneal and gavage methods, tissue dissection) is preferred.
  • Highly organized with proven ability to work independently with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and communicate with colleagues at all levels.
  • Experience with the safe handling of radioactive and biohazardous materials/waste.
  • Willingness to take on new tasks and responsibilities as required.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
