About the Project :

The Connect 6ix project is a pivotal part of constructing Toronto's new Ontario Line subway. The Rolling Stock, Systems, Operations and Maintenance (RSSOM ) project is one of many contracts to deliver the Ontario Line, a 15.6-kilometre stand-alone rapid transit line that will connect the Ontario Science Centre to Exhibition / Ontario Place.

Role Overview

The Quality Supervisor in the rail industry is responsible for overseeing quality assurance and control processes during rail infrastructure projects, ensuring that all work, materials, and services meet or exceed industry standards and project specifications. This role involves supervising quality control teams, conducting inspections, managing testing procedures, and collaborating with project managers, contractors, and vendors to ensure that all work is performed to the highest quality standards.

Role and Responsibilities :

  • Quality Assurance Oversight : Supervise the quality control team to ensure that all rail infrastructure projects comply with established quality standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices. Review quality documentation and ensure consistency with contract specifications.
  • Inspection and Testing : Conduct regular inspections and testing of materials, construction methods, and completed work to verify that they meet project specifications and quality standards. Supervise the implementation of non-destructive testing methods for rail infrastructure.
  • Documentation and Reporting : Maintain comprehensive quality documentation, including inspection records, test results, and quality audits. Prepare regular reports for project managers and senior leadership, highlighting areas of concern, corrective actions, and performance metrics.
  • Non-Conformance Management : Identify non-conformities or deviations from project specifications and industry standards. Work with contractors and subcontractors to develop corrective actions, and ensure prompt resolution of any quality issues.
  • Supplier and Vendor Quality Management : Work closely with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure that the materials, products, and services provided meet the required quality standards. Perform quality audits and assess vendor performance to ensure compliance.
  • Training and Mentoring : Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior quality control staff and field personnel on quality standards, inspection processes, and industry regulations. Ensure all team members are adequately trained in quality control procedures and relevant safety standards.
  • Safety and Compliance : Ensure that all quality control activities are performed in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, with a focus on preventing accidents and promoting a culture of safety on-site.
  • Root Cause Analysis and Continuous Improvement : Conduct root cause analysis of recurring quality issues and develop preventive measures to improve processes and avoid future non-conformities. Support continuous improvement initiatives to optimize quality control processes and procedures.
  • Project Collaboration : Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that quality standards are integrated into all aspects of the project from planning through to completion. Assist in the resolution of quality-related issues affecting project timelines or cost.
  • Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with all rail industry regulations, including environmental, health and safety, and quality standards. Stay up to date with industry developments and regulatory changes to ensure ongoing compliance.

Skills and Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field. Certifications in quality management (e.g., Six Sigma, ISO 9001, or equivalent) are preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in quality control or quality assurance in the construction or rail industry, with a proven track record of managing quality on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in managing the quality control of materials, equipment, and construction methods in the rail sector.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management principles, including inspection techniques, non-conformance reporting, and root cause analysis.
  • Excellent understanding of rail construction standards, track work, and safety procedures.
  • Proficiency in quality management software and tools for tracking quality performance, reporting, and audits.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with project teams, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders.
