Overview

This position contributes to the success of PepsiCo Beverages Canada by ensuring the overall quality control and food safety management system in accordance with Company Standards to uphold trademark integrity. The Quality Supervisor is responsible for managing a diverse frontline employee group.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate and update the Cleaning and Sanitation Procedure Manual, SSOPs and Master Sanitation Schedule to reflect changes in equipment design, new equipment, or changes in the cleaning process.
  • Hands-on participation in cleaning and sanitizing programs to adhere to Food Safety requirements.
  • Provide functional direction & leadership to the plant through the implementation and management of an effective and efficient Quality Program in conformance to food safety procedures and legislative requirements.
  • Train production team members on sanitation procedures.
  • Provide technical assistance for sanitation issues and ensure conformance to food safety program.
  • Solve problems independently in consultation with management and chemical supplier and manage chemical inventory.
  • Direct employees in GMP’s, HACCP, pre-operational, and sanitation procedures.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records for due diligence of quality procedures and continuous improvements.
  • Submit work orders for the repair and maintenance of equipment with follow up.
  • Actively participate in the Company Safety program by promoting safe work procedures, being knowledgeable in safety matters relating to the plant, and encouraging a safety-conscious culture.
  • Ensure compliance with all quality management programs and food safety systems, such as HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
  • Lead the day-to-day operations & optimization of the cleaning and sanitation of the processing facility.
  • Ensure employees are trained and qualified in WHMIS and other programs prior to handling, storing and using chemicals and/or prior to the operation of equipment.
  • Oversee clean-up activities of equipment and facilities in all production areas.
  • Responsible for physical inspection of plant and equipment to evaluate sanitation effectiveness, conduct post sanitation swabbing, data and microbiological trending, and ensure reporting is up to date.
  • Resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems impacted by the quality team to ensure minimum costs and to prevent operational delays.
  • Responsible for training and development of all quality employees for safety and job performance.
  • Schedule quality team staff hours, vacations, and approve hours to meet requirements.
  • Assess your work and that of your team members to ensure that each of the plant's areas are properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Protect the health and safety of employees in accordance with established safe work procedures, Company policies, and applicable provincial legislation.
  • Manage the operational cost of the department including controlling overtime, absenteeism, and quality of production output among others to ensure cost-competitive operation.
  • Maintain site Food Safety/HACCP Plan and support QC manager in food safety internal and external audit preparation and execution.
  • Optimize production yields to reduce waste and support plant targets – put in place improvement plans.
  • Manage the production schedule to ensure batching efficiency and schedule attainment.
  • Ensure proper hold management of non-conforming product.
  • Work alongside service providers and contractors to manage equipment.
  • Perform continuous improvement projects to optimize quality systems.
  • Manage concentrate inventory.
  • Develop frontline quality team capabilities to improve their overall performance and achieve performance targets.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of process improvements and technical developments.
  • Set frontline performance standards providing coaching and feedback to build capability.
  • Build people capability through effective employee relations, hiring, training, and communication for front-line hourly personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or a minimum of 3 years relevant experience, preferably in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated front-line supervisory experience.
  • Prior experience in Sanitation and Food Safety preferred.

  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks without losing momentum while also completing all daily tasks efficiently and effectively.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings and/or weekends.
