The Quality Manager acts as the Management Representative for Quality, reporting directly to the Director of Quality Assurance. This position leads quality audits, manages on-site quality processes, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process and product quality, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards across the company. Responsible for ensuring, implementing, and maintaining the quality program in accordance with ISO 9001 standard, mandatory codes and standards, owner requirements, and engineering specifications for Bird site projects.

This role requires a strong background in quality management, project management, and the ability to analyze and implement effective quality control measures.

The Quality Manager directs the Quality Control Inspectors and Document Control Administrator in their respective duties. Daily communication with the Project/Construction Manager is required by the Quality Manager to address quality issues. The Quality Manager also assists the Director of Quality Assurance, Owner Quality Representative, and ISO Auditors to audit the project quality system.

This position is located within GTA, Ontario.

What you'll be working on:

  • Implementation of the QMS on Bird project sites.
  • Support in providing training on new or updated quality procedures.
  • Manage the QA/QC team, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
  • Coordinate with site teams to address any quality issues promptly and effectively.
  • Oversee the construction process to ensure that all activities are according to established quality standards.
  • Assist the Director of Quality Assurance in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the quality management system and establishing a culture of continuous improvement by identifying new practices that will contribute to the overall effectiveness of the quality management system.
  • Interpret customer standards, product specifications, drawings, and applicable codes and standards and translate them into detailed QA documents (Inspection and Test Plans, procedures, etc.) to ensure the products/service will meet the specified requirements.
  • Interface with the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction on matters related to the planning of QA activities required by the design and applicable codes and standards.
  • Interface with internal staff, various suppliers, customer representatives, and regulatory authorities on issues related to quality and compliance.
  • Support with conducting root cause analysis and timely implementation of corrective/preventive action to respond to customer complaints, internal and supplier concerns.
  • Manage supplier selection, document approvals, and assist with reports regarding suppliers’ performance.
  • Conduct quality review of RFQ documentation and contracts.
  • Maintain the liaison with the Customer’s Quality Assurance Representatives and TSSA.
  • Enforce and promote the company’s Quality Assurance Program. Demonstrate positive leadership qualities and apply them to the work environment.

What we are looking for:

  • A degree/diploma in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in a construction environment in either an office or field role involving a quality aspect of the work and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in applying ISO 9001, ASME Codes, CSA Codes, and building codes requirements to construction.
  • Experience in conducting quality audits.
  • General experience and knowledge in earthworks, geotechnical, formwork and concrete, super-structural steel, architectural, or infrastructure.
  • ISO 9001 Auditor Training.
  • Strong understanding of Code and Client fabrication, regulatory requirements are implemented and completed at field sites.
  • Proficient with computer programs, including Bluebeam and Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of Jurisdictional Authority of requirements.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of welding procedures, techniques, and welding inspection processes.
  • Knowledge of NDE technical requirements and processes.
