Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location, the QA Inspector will report to the Manufacturing Manager of the Quality Department. The QA Inspector will be responsible for inspecting and testing bus duct, low and medium voltage motor control, and low and medium voltage switchgear and PCR/E-Houses. The QA Inspector will also perform these tests for Powell Customers and/or their representatives during witnessed customer inspections.
Essential Responsibilities
- Monitor in shop electrical operation and conduct visual inspections.
- Inspect and test all equipment manufactured at Powell facilities according to Powell Standards.
- Perform Skid Inspection for any Structural, Dimension, Visual Welding & Paint defects as per customer requirements.
- Install, program and operate electronic equipment such as relays, OBR, PLCs, HMIs etc.
- Power up all Powell Electrical Product and other buyout equipment with safety procedures and pre-commissioning check, such as Transformers, Service Panels, HVAC, Battery Chargers, UPS System, etc.
- Perform equipment failure investigations and root cause analysis.
- Responsible for performing all aspects of inspection activities with minimum supervision.
- Ensure that quality document latest revisions are available to and are being utilized while performing the work.
- Complete and maintain all test Quality Control documentation as required.
- Perform maintenance and calibration on test equipment as needed.
- Identify and issue non-conformance reports to Manufacturing Manager to known standards using various measuring and testing methods and assist the appropriate functional area to find the appropriate disposition to non-conformance, ensuring that the appropriate corrective action is taken to prevent recurrence.
- Interact with all departments (shop, engineering, sales, shipping, fabrication, PCR, switchgear) including customers to work to resolve quality-related issues.
- Coordinate with customers and QC inspectors for the resolution of shop problems as well as Factory Acceptance Tests.
- Record Engineering and Shop discrepancies and shortages.
- Fully participate in continuous process improvement and cost control, following quality policies, procedures, and standards to maintain compliance with company guidelines.
- Organize and implement quality control systems and processes and provide feedback to the Manufacturing Manager.
- Promote a safety culture as well as attend all safety meetings.
- Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.
- Ensure that work areas remain clean and well organized.
- Other duties as required.

Qualifications
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering, BS Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Journeyman Electrician Trade Ticket is an asset).
- Minimum 0-3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiar with the use of test equipment such as multimeter, clamp-on-meter, voltage detector, Hi-Pot, etc.
- Basic level computer skills in MS Office products.
- Intermediate experience working with industry codes and standards and able to refer to applicable codes.
- Basic knowledge of Electrical Theory and relevant Mechanical experience.
- Ability to read prints including specification sheets, wiring diagrams, schematics, three-line drawings, wiring lists, and part drawings.
- Knowledge of policies, how to write them, and how to administer them consistently.
- Safety training certificates are an asset for the position.
- Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position, successful candidates will undergo pre-employment substance abuse and medical testing upon hire.
Working Conditions
- Safety-sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses, and respirators) when required.
- Working at a desk and computer in an office environment is required.
- Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders, and all size extension ladders) and scaffolding.
- Working at heights usually no higher than 30 feet in the air on or using proper lift equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending, or descending stairs.
- Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.
- Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.
- Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift.
- Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders, and use both arms at full length frequently.
- Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.
- Ability to use hand tools such as tin snips, hammer, and power tools (some vibrating), for long periods of time with frequent repetition.
