Job description

Job Summary

We are currently seeking a talented, results-oriented individual to join us as a Quality Engineer-in-Training, Quality Technologist-in-Training, or Quality Technician. This position involves the design and maintenance of test procedures, test fixtures, database systems, and department specific applications and tools. In addition, this position will be responsible for supporting our contract manufacturers, assisting with escalated customer technical support issues, and troubleshooting products returned by customers.

The position is on the Quality Engineering Team which reports to the Quality Engineering Manager and is located in our Acheson, Alberta, Canada office.

Responsibilities

  1. Product Test Procedures:
    • Work with the R&D Team to ensure that new products are designed for test and that the test fixtures designed by the R&D team meet applicable requirements.
    • Write, implement, train on, audit, and maintain Test Procedures for MP (Mass Production) Testing, IQC (Incoming Quality Control) Testing, OQC (Outgoing Quality Control) Testing, CPV (Continuous Product Validation) Testing, and RMA (Return Material Authorization) Testing.
  2. Production Management and QC Support:
    • Assist with production change management including participating in the build package signoff process.
    • Provide technical support for contract manufacturers and Profire’s QC Team.
    • Deploy, train on, audit, and provide basic maintenance of test fixtures for MP/IQC/OQC/CPV/RMA purposes, referring more complex matters to the R&D Team.
  3. Defect Analysis:
    • Provide Root Cause Analysis for Issues arising from MP/IQC/OQC/CPV Testing.
  4. Failure Analysis:
    • Provide Root Cause Analysis for Issues arising from product returns (RMAs).
    • Provide Root Cause Analysis for Serious Incidents and Near Misses.
  5. Escalated Tier IV Customer Technical Support:
    • For product quality problems that require investigation.
  6. Continuous Product Improvement:
    • Provide feedback to the R&D and other teams on product and test fixture defects through the CAR, SCAR, and CAPA processes.
  7. Technical Bulletins:
    • Quality notices.
    • Product recalls.
  8. Misc. project or tasks as assigned from time-to-time by your manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, or similar.
  • Registered as a Member-in-Training with APEGA or ASET (if required).
  • Excellent technical writing skills in English language.
  • High Level of attention to detail.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience (may be summer, part-time, or Co-op jobs).

Bonus Qualifications

  • Familiarity with both electronic and mechanical manufacturing design and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Experience with electronics troubleshooting.
  • Experience with debugging embedded software, desktop software, and database systems.
