Overview

Lafarge Canada has an immediate opportunity at our Edmonton Alberta Canada location for a Quality Control Technician to support our Ready Mix Concrete quality operations in the greater Edmonton area through pre-pour and post-pour checks, performing concrete testing, and assuring that products meet specifications. The successful applicant for this position must work well in a team environment, demonstrate a strong, independent work ethic, and continuously improve their own personal performance and skills.

The responsibilities:

1. Perform quality control functions including testing of plastic and hardened concrete and testing of aggregates.
2. Field testing of concrete.
3. Controlling concrete quality at the plant and in the field.
4. Maintain and perform detailed records.
5. Maintain records of testing documentation.
6. Advise production staff if testing shows any deficiencies.
7. Test and verify production concrete product as batched or on site.
8. Perform all necessary tasks related to testing and quality assurance.

Qualifications and Competencies:

1. Must have the ability to learn quickly and acquire skills to perform the job description.
2. CCIL or ACI Certification is considered a strong asset.
3. A degree from college or university with a 2-year degree (Associate Degree) in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) is considered a strong asset.
4. Previous construction related or concrete work is considered an asset.
5. Must be independent and be able to work with limited supervision.
6. Good written and verbal communication skills.
7. Must have good organization and planning skills with the ability to multi-task.
8. Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
9. Must project professionalism with both customers and co-workers.

Requirements

1. Must adhere to all Lafarge safety and environmental practices and policies.
2. Valid Alberta Driver’s license along with access to reliable transportation.
3. Able to use Microsoft Word and Excel.
4. Must be able to work at varying start times which can include nights and weekends and overtime.
5. Able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
6. Able to lift up to 45 pounds.
7. Able to climb ladders, scaffolding and stockpiles.
8. Able to work in an industrial environment that may include dust, heat, loud noise.
9. Able to do the above while wearing the appropriate required personal protective equipment (Hard hat, safety glasses, ear muffs, etc).
