Position Summary

The Field Site or Shop Quality Control department provides assistance and direction to Maintenance, Turnaround, and Construction Supervisors and personnel in the performance of inspections, tests and completion of documentation covering welding, mechanical, rotating equipment, electrical and instrumentation disciplines. The inspector will perform spot checks and other quality audits to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, client specs, procedures and practices. QC will collect, generate, verify, maintain all required documents and prepare for turnover to the client.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Ensuring that the requirements of the CAM “Quality Control Program” are adhered to in the inspector’s assigned area. He/she will also ensure field personnel are working to an approved ITP for that particular work scope.
  2. Reviewing on an ongoing basis, engineering drawings and isometrics, client specifications and instructions, to ensure that the field personnel are working with and in compliance with the latest approved revisions.
  3. Liaison with owner’s inspector and AI when requiring their involvement for that particular job based on the hold points listed on the ITP.
  4. Verifying when required that the appropriate receiving inspection is carried out. Assisting when required in examining any vendor supplied packaged units/equipment for any visible defects, or damage which may have occurred during shipment.
  5. Verify material against the drawings/line spec, verify MTRs to be correct and ensure material traceability in the QC turnover package including heat number mapping.
  6. Verify qualified welding procedures and qualified welders meet the work scope.
  7. Performing inspections on fabrications, erections, installations/assemblies of equipment to ensure compliance to client specifications, engineering requirements and applicable codes.
  8. Maintain and control welding electrode issuance and usage. Monitor the welding consumable ovens and control.
  9. Monitor work in progress to ensure that the weld procedures are being followed and the welders are welding within their qualifications for that particular work scope.
  10. Perform weld visuals including maintaining weld traceability through the weld NDE log and weld maps.
  11. Perform dimensional and orientation inspections.
  12. Selecting at random, location of required NDE. The inspector will request, coordinate and supervise all non-destructive examinations (NDE), review for accuracy and sign off on any related reports. Ensure NDE personnel are qualified.
  13. Review radiograph film to ensure code compliance. Physically identify the repair area of the weld when required.
  14. Coordinate and request PWHT. Review for accuracy and sign off on stress relieving charts.
  15. Release systems for pressure tests. Coordinate, witness and sign off pressure tests including documenting the test and verifying the limits of the test. Ensure pressure test gauge calibration is current.
  16. Assist the client in-process examination closure welds when required.
  17. Witnessing flange bolts ups and any torquing/tensioning requirements when required.
  18. Verifying where deviations exist between the engineering drawings/sketches and the actual installation, that a marked-up set of “as-built” drawings are submitted with the turnover package.
  19. In the event of a non-conformity, the inspector shall ensure an NCR is issued detailing the nature of the non-conformance.
  20. Follow and maintain the ITP, ensuring it is signed off at all hold points upon completion of that required task.
  21. Maintaining all the required documentation and logs, ensuring inclusion into the QC turnover package at job completion and prepare for turnover to client.
  22. Ensure the Data Reports are filled out at job completion.
  23. Provide technical assistance at field level on any welding and quality issues.
  24. Participate in final inspection/walk downs of completed systems.
  25. Participate in field level audits on electrode storage areas, electrode ovens, calibration of equipment, welding parameters per WPS, material control/traceability, general workmanship, etc.
  26. The QC Inspector may be required to perform Magnetic Particle testing (MT), Dye Penetrant testing (PT) as required in the work scope. In this case, the inspector must have current qualification to CGSB level II for the type of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) that they are going to perform. The inspector may also perform Ultrasonic testing for the purpose of verifying material thickness provided they are certified to a minimum CGSB level I in Ultrasonic examination.
  27. Reviewing work packages prior to being issued in order to develop and submit an Inspection Test Plan (ITP) to the client for approval.
  28. Ensuring all QC packages are reviewed at work completion and have met the requirements of CAM’s “Quality Control Program”, client specifications and applicable codes & regulations.
  29. Submitting the QC package to the client’s inspector and the AI for review and sign off when required.
  30. Liaison with the AI, ensuring that they are well informed of quality control activities on site and the coordination and supervision of their visits.
  31. Coordinate and prioritize non-destructive examinations. Ensure N.D.E personnel are properly qualified for the work that they are performing.
  32. Provide assistance to the client on welding procedure selection.
  33. Coordinate and supervise welder performance qualification tests including the welder orientation.
  34. Submitting to the Site or Shop Quality Control Manager on an as required basis, a summary of field quality control activities.

Qualifications

  1. Adherence to working safely and promoting a safe work environment is mandatory.
  2. Professional engineer or other certification considered.
  3. 5+ years' experience in a maintenance capacity involved in routine maintenance, small capital projects and plant turnarounds.
  4. Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  5. Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills.
  6. Ability to communicate with all levels of management and client.
