Overview:
Our government client in Winnipeg, MB is looking a Quality Assurance Specialist for an initial 6-month contract with an option for additional extensions, reference #205-XXX-24-054. This role requires a candidate to be onsite in Winnipeg up to a maximum of 50% of the time so candidates for this role should be currently residing in the Winnipeg area or willing to relocate to the area for the duration of the contract.

What you will be doing:

  • The Senior Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for leading the quality assurance activities on development and maintenance projects.
  • This includes the validation of front-end and back-end systems, understanding the business and system requirements, mapping them to the application functionality and identifying testing strategies for each project.
  • Application testing including creation and execution of tests according to test plans, test cases, and test deliverables following industry standards and best practices; analyzing test results, identifying and documenting defects, and validating the defects once fixed.
  • The Senior Quality Assurance Specialist will work closely with the business users, Systems Analyst and the software development team to understand requirements and resolve defects.
  • The Senior Quality Assurance Specialist will mentor Quality Assurance Specialists as necessary.

What you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or equivalent experience paired with seven (7) years of experience in IT.
  • Seven (7) years of software quality experience.
  • Broad IT domain experience in three (3) or more of the following IT areas: Application Development, Enterprise Architecture, Project Management, Quality Assurance, Infrastructure, and Maintenance and Support.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills in English are required as this position will be working with end users.
  • Strong aptitude to learn company applications and systems.
  • Good understanding of different testing methodologies, testing types, and processes.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of Software Quality Assurance principles and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
  • Exceptional attention to details.
  • Requirements management.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL.
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends as needed.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in the insurance industry.
  • Experience with team collaboration tools (i.e., Confluence, Jira, etc.).
  • Experience with requirements management tools (i.e. Confluence, Jira, etc.).
  • Experience with test management tools (i.e. TestRail, etc.).
  • Experience with Source Code control tools (i.e. Git, BitBucket, etc.).
  • Experience with automation testing tools (i.e. SmartBear Testing Suite, SOAP UI, Postman, etc.).
  • Experience with cross browser testing tools (i.e. BrowserStack, SmartBear, Lambda Test, Sauce Labs, etc.).
