SUMMARY

The Quality and Compliance Specialist ensures that quality standards and current procedures meet or exceed Canadian Food and Natural Health Products regulations as well as the standards set by our clients. The Quality and Compliance Specialist reports to the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for quality and compliance processes related to Food and Natural Health Product (NHP) regulations.
  • Ensuring that all processes, products, and facilities adhere to regulatory requirements and standards specific to the NHP and Food industries. Staying up to date with changing regulations and implementing necessary changes to maintain compliance.
  • Implementing and maintaining a rigorous quality control system to monitor product quality and consistency. This includes the inspection of incoming materials and finished products.
  • Developing and maintaining detailed records of quality control checks, test results, and compliance documentation with a specific focus related to food inspection audits and other regulatory inspections.
  • Developing and maintaining SOPs, HACCP/PCP plans for food safety and identifying potential hazards.
  • Investigating and addressing any quality or safety issues by conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conducting vendor approval and verification related to incoming materials, equipment, or packaging materials.
  • Providing training to employees on quality assurance protocols and safety measures to maintain consistency in quality and compliance.
  • Working closely with all departments to ensure staff are working in compliance with client expectations.
  • Working closely with CFIA inspector on site to ensure all requirements are met.
  • Providing recommendations for process improvement to reduce cost and improve quality.
  • Conducting internal Quality Food Safety audits on a monthly basis.
  • Developing and maintaining product recall plans and traceability exercises in case of safety or quality concerns and actual recalls.
  • Developing and updating SOPs, programs, and forms related to quality assurance processes and ensuring that employees follow these procedures.
  • Maintaining paperwork and documentation accurately and effectively.
  • Assisting in creating and maintaining an environment that promotes positive communication within the facility as well as fostering teamwork within the operation.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality assurance, preferably in the Food and Natural health product industry.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Prior experience with external audits and regulatory inspections.

EDUCATION

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in a related field (Food Science, Chemistry, Quality Assurance, etc.) or equivalent experience.
