Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full Time Position.

As the Purchasing Specialist, you will manage procurement activities for our Ontario thermal assets, including requisition to purchase order processes, sourcing, logistics, and low-moderate value contracts.

This role focuses on low-mid complexity purchase orders, inventory sourcing & replenishment, RFx competitive sourcing, reviewing supplier price changes, and using existing contracts for PO creation. It also involves arranging deliveries with logistics/custom brokers, building ad-hoc reports, and contributing to BI-driven reports.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Ensure compliance with Purchasing Policies, Inventory Standard, and Code of Conduct.
  • Drive daily low-mid complexity negotiations and purchases for various departments.
  • Arrange deliveries with customs and logistics brokers according to INCOTERMS and manage cross-border shipments.
  • Participating in process improvements in the purchasing process and plant operations.
  • Continuing to improve knowledge of the markets related to goods and services used in power generation.
  • Staying knowledgeable of new trends and advancements in the supply chain and purchasing discipline.
  • Helping the organization get the best price for goods and services through low-complexity negotiations.
  • Escalating problems to the appropriate team member.
  • Undertaking competitive sourcing activity through RFx(P/Q/B) and taking part in the quotation evaluation process for low to moderate complexity purchases.
  • Following the guidance of the Supply Chain Management team for mid-high complexity and strategic decisions.
  • Working with Maintenance teams to optimize Inventory replenishment following corporate Inventory Management guidance.
  • Providing limited input into changes of the ERP and CMMS system(s) and testing the system during upgrades.
  • Effectively negotiate with Vendors and 3rd parties to create value for the business.
  • Providing all the information required to complete purchase orders to mitigate risk to the organization.
  • Following up with acknowledgment of the receipt of purchase orders with suppliers using electronic document management software.
  • Working with suppliers to make sure we reduce our risk related to costs, quality, and lead time.
  • Monitoring supplier behavior to ensure business relationship is within ethical guidelines.
  • Working daily with various departments to fulfill the purchasing requirements for various cross-discipline peers.
  • Customer-value focused to work with internal and external contacts for mutual gain.

What you will bring to the role:

Education:

  • Completed Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in Operations, Finance, or Supply Chain preferred; understanding of purchasing process.
  • Designation complete or in progress in any of the following: Supply Chain Management or Purchasing, Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP).
  • Education equivalency may be considered.

Experience & Skills:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a related supply chain field.
  • Some experience working with an Enterprise Resource Planning system (IE, Oracle/SAP).
  • Experience creating purchase orders, and knowledge of the content related to contracts for goods and services.
  • Logistics experience setting shipping terms (INCOTERMS) and basic import/export requirements.
  • Full understanding of procure-to-pay process, purchase requisition, PO, receipt and invoicing.
  • Inventory management knowledge an asset.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and working in a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).

Working Conditions:

  • Although the position is based at the Goreway Power Station, the position may be required to travel to provide support to other Ontario based Capital Power facilities and projects as required.

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
