POSITION SUMMARY
The Purchasing Agent connects our site teams with Multiplex's trusted suppliers to provide needed materials, equipment, services and products for the delivery to our projects. This position will require working with our site teams to plan and understand project needs so that orders arrive on site in a Just-in-Time basis. The key to success in this position will be strong, quick communication with our site teams and supplier partners and inbound and outbound shipments. Cross functional discussions will be critical with site, the safety department, legal, marketing and communications and the finance department. Working under the guidance of the Senior Manager, Procurement & Business Optimization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide recommendations to project management staff on Division One (General Conditions) on procurement of vendors, suppliers, or subcontractors.
- Receive requisitions from multiple sites and create a purchase order along with placing the order with the appropriate supplier.
- Perform 3-point match with Requisition, Purchase Order and Packing Slip; coordinate with the Accounts Payable team to process invoicing.
- Assist with input in the rental tracker for all tools and equipment that are rented on site.
- Assist with input and tracking of inventory at head office and sites.
- Reach out to vendors for budgetary pricing.
- Negotiate with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to secure advantageous terms.
- Review existing contracts with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure on-going feasibility.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
- Keep trade database current at all times with key subcontractors, vendors and supplier contact details, key discussions, and negotiations.
- Prepare procurement reports and project tender tracking reports.
- Support estimating department with accurate vendor pricing.
- Run ad hoc reports as required.
- Audit vendor accounts and outstanding balances as needed
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- At least 2 years direct work experience in a purchasing or procurement capacity with direct focus on construction consumables and rentals.
- Completion of a post-secondary degree/diploma program in Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Purchasing, Business Administration, Construction Management or another related field.
- On-site construction management experience is strongly preferred.
