The Public Health Nurse (PHN) works within a multi-disciplinary team to provide services in health promotion, health protection, and disease treatment and prevention for individuals, families, groups, and communities, under the direction of the Senior Leadership Team of Niagara Region Public Health and Emergency Services (NRPH & EMS). The PHN combines knowledge from public health, social, and nursing sciences to engage in promoting health, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of public health interventions and services. Services are provided virtually and in person through home or office visits, community settings, presentations, agency liaison, and collaboration.
The PHN is guided by departmental priorities, the Ontario Public Health Standards, the Canadian Public Health Association competencies, Community Health Nursing standards, and the College of Nurses of Ontario standards.
The PHN works according to the College of Nurses of Ontario’s Practice Standards and program-specific plans, policies, procedures, and guidelines, while adhering to corporate and departmental policies.
