Job description

Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team in providing comprehensive care to clients and family members struggling with an eating disorder. This involves completing a comprehensive mental health assessment and developing a treatment plan, providing direct psychotherapy to clients and family members to help them to achieve their optimal level of health.

Duties

  • Provide advanced, specialized services and psychotherapy to clients and/or their families on an outpatient basis.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to conduct initial assessments and develop personalized intervention plans; interview clients individually, in the family context or in groups to determine and evaluate the client’s social, financial, psychological, cultural and family situation.
  • Provide individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy for clients with concurrent disorders.
  • Participate in the development and adjustment of programming, treatment plans, including case conferences and meetings with clients and families.
  • Educate clients, families, and the public on concurrent disorders and available resources.
  • Make referrals to appropriate community treatment alternatives and services along the MH&A continuum of care.
  • Engage in committees, community initiatives, team meetings, and quality improvement activities.
  • Analyze findings of assessment to assist in developing a care plan with the appropriate referral source.
  • Develop therapy practice(s) to assist in resolving complex problems regarding concurrent disorders.
  • Collaborate with members of hospital staff, community partners and other persons or groups seeking guidance in an effort to address the needs of the clients.
  • Function as a professional role model demonstrating good interpersonal skills and a commitment to self-growth and development.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with other hospital and medical staff and community partners while remaining a client advocate.
  • Participate in peer supervision and serving in a consultative role with other staff, as requested.
  • Participate in weekly multi-disciplinary meetings, monthly meetings.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of services, appropriate research, literature, accreditation requirements, policy and legislative requirements and implementing improvements/changes as appropriate.
  • Comply with organizational policies, procedures and standards.
  • Participate in In-Service programs regarding the social and emotional components of health/illness and their effects on patients and families.
  • Maintain accurate client records and statistical reports as required.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling and social programs.
  • Assuming other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications
  • Masters level prepared and authorized to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy in Ontario.
  • Registration with one of the following governing bodies:
    • College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
    • College of Nurses of Ontario
    • College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
    • College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
    • College of Psychologists of Ontario
    • Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years recent experience providing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT/CBT-E), Family-Based Therapy (FBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI/ME) and/or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL
  • Experience in the delivery of evidence based individual and group therapies is required.
  • Experience providing family based therapy including family sessions, psycho-education.
  • Experience working in a community-based, outpatient program or regional program.
  • Experience providing group and individual treatment and counselling, across the age span.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to provide public education, group presentations and teaching to staff, patients, families, and community members.
  • Knowledge of local and provincial resources is required.
  • Knowledge of the DSM-V, concurrent disorders, crisis intervention theory, suicide risk assessment, and techniques an asset; understanding and ability to implement requirements outlined in the Mental Health Act required.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills including the ability to relate well with others and adapt style as needed.
