Position Purpose And Summary
All leaders of Trinity Western University (TWU) are committed to carrying out its Evangelical Christian mission. Reporting to the President, the Provost provides leadership to the academic and associated units of TWU in supporting the fulfillment and mission of TWU, being an arm of the Church, developing godly Christian leaders: positive, goal-oriented university graduates with thoroughly Christian minds; growing disciples of Jesus Christ who glorify God through fulfilling the Great Commission, serving God and people in the various marketplaces of life.
The Provost serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the University Senate, and senior administrative teams, and provides overall leadership for long-range planning, development, implementation, and assessment of all academic policies and programs. The Provost is responsible for the continuous development of high quality, integrated spiritual and academic student experiences at TWU. The Provost also provides leadership in academic resource allocation and nurtures and encourages faculty development to ensure teaching and research excellence.
Key Areas of Accountability
In a manner consistent with TWU’s mission, Statement of Faith, Community Covenant, and core values, the Provost will:
- Act in a manner which exemplifies Jesus Christ in all on and off campus activities, living consistent TWU’s mission and mandate and demonstrating servant leadership.
- Serve as a key advisor to the President, the Board of Governors, and senior leadership on all academic matters of TWU.
- Demonstrate commitment to the spiritual and scholarly life of TWU with integration of Christian faith and learning and the pursuit of academic vitality throughout its academic programs.
- Function as a leader of the University’s Executive Leadership and senior administrative teams, guiding academic and institutional development in a manner consistent with TWU’s mission.
- Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and administration of academic policies and integrate academic freedom within a faith-affirming academic environment.
- In collaboration with other senior leaders, contribute to the attainment of TWU’s strategic plan, long-term vision, and growth objectives.
- Deliver and champion a student-focused environment, leading to the highest levels of student engagement, services, and success.
- Engage the Deans and governing bodies in advancing the academic mission of the University.
- Support the development of an academic culture which promotes excellence in teaching, research, and innovation.
- Represent TWU as its academic spokesperson, to advance its mission and mandate.
- Attract and retain a diverse group of outstanding faculty, student, and staff and support them in ways which allow them to achieve their highest potential.
- Lead faculty promotion, tenure, and sabbatical processes.
- Establish an interactive and consultative communication process within and between the academic and administrative units throughout the University.
- Oversee regular evaluation of academic programs with a view of achieving excellence, encouraging improvements, innovations and an interdisciplinary approach.
- Provide leadership and vision in fostering student success by integrating opportunities for rich academic engagement with high quality services and programs for transformative education and experiences.
- Lead the development and implementation of TWUs international strategy and activities in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, community partners, and regulatory bodies.
- Support the development of academic infrastructure, including physical facilities and information technology which promotes excellence in teaching and research.
- Fulfill a key role in identifying and supporting the academic priorities for all aspects of external relations including Development and Alumni Relations.
- Grow a full life course framework to support and develop faculty, specifically in the areas of scholarship, pedagogy, and service/administrative roles.
- Champion faith-based and faith-affirming learning in combination with academic and intellectual excellence.

- A passionate concern for the quality of the student experience in an Evangelical Christian multi-campus environment and a proven track record in achieving improvements in student academic and spiritual development.
- Demonstrated experience building departments and/or programs of academic and research excellence.
- Demonstrated history of working effectively with academic governance bodies such as Senate(s), major Senate Committees, and/or Ministries of Education/Advanced Education.

Standards & RequirementsEducation: An earned Doctoral degree.
Experience: Demonstrated significant (8+ years) and recent (within the last 5 years) academic administrative experience in a complex university setting, including evidence of effective strategic planning, budget management, and innovative academic accomplishments.
