We have a great opportunity within the Project Management Office. We are currently hiring a Project Scheduler.

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Senior Planner Scheduler, and under the general direction of the Project Controls Lead (in a matrix reporting structure), as a Project Scheduler, you will be assigned to a project management team and will be responsible for providing project management support by establishing, monitoring, and updating multiple project schedules through the planning, design, procurement, construction, and testing/commissioning phases. You must exercise problem-solving and analytical abilities to effectively manage and interpret scheduling and cost information from various sources, and help elevate the project group knowledge and awareness of best practices on project management information system usage.

You will participate in the implementation and ongoing business improvement of the project management system for ECE projects; collaborate with the Senior Planner and Scheduler to ensure the integration of PMO tools and systems related to planning and scheduling; implement scheduling aspects of a coordinated project control system by using a defined Work Breakdown Structure and Organization Breakdown Structure in the ECE scheduling and cost control systems; baseline program and project plans to identify, develop, and implement benchmarking data for the measurement and analysis of variances and root causes; develop and maintain the Master Project Schedule; and plan, coordinate, and monitor scheduling activities.

You will attend design and construction review meetings and contribute to the design and construction process, including timing, sequencing, and staging of construction; attend planning workshops with different stakeholders to develop various levels of design and construction schedules in the early stages of the projects; attend internal and external integration and interface meetings to manage the projects effectively; perform critical path/what-if/variance analysis and earned value management; and report schedule variances and recommend corrective action.

You will also support the preparation of Group and Department reports; provide input to project controls plans (schedule management section) and program controls plans under the leadership of Senior Planner & Scheduler, Project Controls Lead, or Manager – Project Controls; provide input to project controls sections of the dashboards and executive reports; communicate with the project management team and other staff to ensure adherence to planning and scheduling policies, procedures, and guidelines; provide Time Impact Analysis services for assigned projects; implement changes to project schedules through effective change management; and support linkage between schedule and cost to facilitate budgeting for assigned projects.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related technical or business discipline (e.g., civil, electrical or mechanical engineering, project management), and progressive experience in planning and scheduling and/or project management; or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Experience with all aspects of the Master Project Schedule (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning Schedules) in addition to cost control and project controls in a construction environment.
  • Experience working on large projects as well as multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing design & construction schedules in the early stages of the projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in different delivery models other than Design-Bid-Build (Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, Construction Manager at Risk, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience with time impact analysis, what-if scenarios, and recovery schedules.
  • Certified Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP) with the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE), Certified Scheduling Technician (CST) with the AACE, or PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) would be an asset.
  • Formal training/certification in project management is considered a definite asset.
  • Sound knowledge of scheduling and planning principles, methods, procedures, and gate processes; good understanding of integration between project functions.
  • Sound knowledge and practical experience related to scheduling through the end-to-end project lifecycle.
  • Sound understanding of basic engineering and construction methodologies; ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
  • Understanding of both project owner and project execution requirements.
  • Ability to serve as a subject matter expert to project management team to provide technical guidance and recommendations.
  • Well-developed organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to manage large amounts of data.
  • Ability to review and evaluate recommendations proposed by others, exercising independent judgment to ensure consistency with business goals.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and influencing skills; demonstrated ability to maintain effective and collaborative work relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong time management; ability to prioritize and balance competing demands in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficient in software applications relevant to the work, including Primavera 6 and Microsoft Office.
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements.
