Job description

Reporting to the Senior Bridge Engineer/Sub-Sector Leader, the successful candidate will be responsible for structural analysis and design, project management, mentoring junior staff, construction cost estimating, tender and specification document preparation, contract administration and general review during construction of bridge and infrastructure related projects.

This opportunity will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to be an integral part on a variety of bridge design projects, while working with a multi-discipline team. The successful candidate will be expected to work directly with our senior structural and junior structural designers to complete projects, as well as to meet directly with clients and other stakeholders to co-ordinate the completion of projects.

The position will involve (but is not limited to) carrying out the following tasks, and includes:

  • Project management, structural analysis and design oversight of infrastructure projects;
  • Structural design and coordination of preliminary and detailed design drawings and preparation of related reports;
  • Liaising with clients, sub-consultants and contractors;
  • Providing leadership and technical guidance to juniors and support staff and liaising with management staff across the company to ensure design quality standards are met;
  • Collaborating with or leading multi-office design teams to ensure project delivery teams are appropriately staffed such that the needs of clients are successfully met;
  • Provide technical support and guidance during construction;
  • Preparing proposals and project reports;
  • Nurturing existing client base and identifying new potential business initiatives;
  • Working under the guidance of project managers and management staff across the company to develop design skills and ensure design quality standards are met;
  • Providing mentorship to junior staff;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Professional Knowledge & Qualifications
The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:
  • Registered Professional Engineer (Ontario / PEO) with 5 years minimum of licensure, in good standing with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO)
  • Graduation from a University program in Civil Engineering
  • A minimum of 8 years of structural analysis and design experience, specifically in the structural/bridge engineering field
  • Solid project management experience with a demonstrated understanding and appreciation of budget and time constraints
  • Proficiency in the use of Midas Civil (or similar) bridge analysis and design software
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent knowledge of drawing set-up and production
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Transportation standards, methodology and manuals
  • Strong interpersonal oral and written communication skills
  • Strong client management and facilitation skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Experience with reviewing structural damage and report preparation for litigation is an asset.
