The Role

As a driven and motivated Project Geologist at Orix, you are passionate about rocks and data, bringing diverse and demonstrated field exploration (drill programs/mapping) and desktop compilation (ArcGIS) skills to teams, working collaboratively within our Geology and Geomatics departments in both the field and office, to meet our clients' milestones.

Qualifications & Technical Skills

  1. University Degree B.Sc. Geology (or equivalent);
  2. Registered as a P.Geo (EGM, APGO, OGQ or other provincial body);
  3. 5+ years experience in mineral exploration with demonstrated experience supervising teams;
  4. Demonstrated ability to plan and execute field mapping/sampling and surface drilling projects;
  5. Fully capable and readily available to work in remote field locations;
  6. Rotation work (i.e. 3 weeks on 3 weeks off) for up to 50-80% of the year;
  7. Demonstrated field program project management (surface mapping and drill programs);
  8. Working experience with 2D GIS software and building data compilations (ArcGIS, QGIS);
  9. Intermediate 3D software and modelling skills an asset (Datamine, Leapfrog);
  10. Ability to communicate fluently in French an asset.

Key Responsibilities

As a key member of Orix, you will work with cross-functional teams and be involved in both field and desktop projects, with a willingness to contribute in any capacity to get the job done! You will be responsible for delivering high-quality work while maintaining attentive relationships with clients and integrating responsible and conscientious practices (H&S, ESG). As a Project Geologist, you will be accountable to your tasks and projects by demonstrating responsive and inclusive communication, fostering team building, and contributing to drive projects forward with strategic thinking and effective problem-solving.

Field Work

  1. Participate in exploration drill and mapping projects with a particular focus on mapping within Canada; ground truthing, prospecting, mapping, targeting, core logging and sampling, daily/weekly updates;
  2. Contribute and integrate responsible practices; H&S SOP/ERP, stakeholder engagement, etc.;
  3. Project management, implementing programs and monitoring schedules, budgets, scopes etc.;
  4. Leadership and team building including supporting and/or supervising geology, geotechnical and geomatic professionals; internal to Orix, clients, or contractors;

Desktop Work

  1. Compile historical and proprietary datasets within 2D (ArcGIS, QGIS) and 3D (Leapfrog, Datamine) compilations;
  2. Digitally transform and QAQC historical drill logs, analytical data, and maps;
  3. Interpret geological data (surface and/or underground plans/sections) including lithology, structure, alteration, veins, and mineralization;
  4. Use of 3D platforms (Leapfrog, Datamine) in the development of geological models an asset;
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate targets and communicate findings;
  6. Participate in the writing of assessment reports;
  7. Ongoing team collaboration and accountability to projects in a dynamic environment;
  8. Attentive to project objectives, maintaining strong relationships with clients.
