Valard is Canada's premier utility contractor, as well as head of the Valard Group of Companies and part of the Quanta Group, the largest electrical power contractor in North America. Valard has full-service capabilities for transmission, distribution, substations, foundations, telecommunications, and renewable energy.

Valard Construction is currently seeking a Project Engineer to join our Substations and Renewables team. Reporting to the Manager, Substation Technical Services, the Junior Project Engineer is responsible for nurturing and strengthening relationships with internal teams and clients, serving as the primary technical point of contact for clients as needed. Responsibilities also include offering construction support, generating non-compliance reports when necessary, and promptly addressing inquiries from the construction team while ensuring the completion of project documentation. Additionally, the position entails identifying and suggesting solutions for issues and meticulously reviewing specifications, drawings, and test reports to uphold high-quality design standards.

Requirements

KEY (CORE) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Writing and planning project scope, proposals, estimates, change notices, budgets and similar documents
  • Development of material and construction specifications
  • Prepare estimates, procurement support, material take-offs, requisitions, design packages and technical evaluations
  • Track reception of material and inventory
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with internal groups and clients
  • Provide construction support, write non-compliance reports (when necessary), and respond to information requests from the construction team while ensuring project documentation is completed
  • Find, recommend, and provide solutions to problems
  • Check specifications, drawings and test reports to ensure high quality design
  • Run the Quality Plan and ensure the validity of documents related to quality and monitor them
  • Act as liaison and technical resource for all construction personnel on the project
  • Other duties as requested and assigned

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from a recognized institution
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a technical position
  • Registered Engineer or eligible for registration as an EIT with a Canadian engineering organization
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to travel and work on rotation
  • Maintain a class 5 driver's license in good standing
