NTI Services Ltd. is an industrial construction and maintenance contractor that delivers value-added engineering, project management, and construction services to materials-handling, mining, and other industrial and commercial sectors. We primarily install and maintain machinery and related structural steel work for container ports, bulk material terminals, and heavy industrial manufacturing plants - mostly within the Vancouver Lower Mainland.
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Engineer at NTI Services Ltd. is responsible for ensuring that project design, procurement, construction, and completion are done in compliance with the project contract requirements, technical standards, and procedures. The Project Engineer will have oversight of most major aspects of project technical scopes; including:
- Design and constructability reviews
- Developing subcontractor scope packages
- Creating field work packages
- Installation drawings
- Troubleshooting installation challenges in the field
- Commissioning
- Project close out documentation
- Supporting the Project Manager and Superintendent on various project-related tasks
Accountabilities:
- Promote a work environment where the safety and health of everyone involved is paramount
- Execute capital projects according to the work scope, schedule, and budget
- Manage preparation of detailed design drawings, material specifications, and procurement
- Participate in design and constructability reviews
- Prepare and submit RFIs
- Prepare installation drawings and field work packages
- Coordinate site construction activities and resolve issues
- Review project schedule, monitor progress, challenge below par performance
- Manage subcontractors to ensure compliance with project design, specifications, and schedule
- Support the project manager to prepare change orders
- Support the project manager in developing weekly and monthly progress reports
- Support the QA/QC engineer
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist project manager and construction manager in establishing project objectives, procedures, data collection methods, and performance standards within parameters of project specifications
- Prepare necessary updates of construction activities and determine personnel and equipment requirements
- Offer technical information to project supervision to ensure work complies with applicable codes, drawings, and specifications
- Work closely with QC engineer to monitor and track project quality control metrics and activities on a regular basis, provide timely and accurate quality reports, and raise issues to PM or Superintendent as appropriate
- Create and administer testing protocols for monitoring project performance
- Inform supervisors and subcontractors promptly of any construction schedule changes, and work closely with all stakeholders to ensure requirements are met
- Oversee budgetary, scheduling, and project databases, and report regularly to the project manager on progress as well as on problems that could significantly affect cost or schedule
- Manage compliance with standards and specifications for quality control and assurance
- Coordinate with engineers, designers, owners, and field personnel
- Generate Requests for Information (RFIs) and submittals
- Monitor and manage subcontractor schedules and technical queries
- Support the QA/QC engineer with field welding management (procedures, NDT, documentation)
- Manage 3rd party structural / mechanical gap engineering
- Manage 3rd party geotechnical engineer
- Organize critical lift plans with crane subcontractor
- Inspect all work to assure compliance with plans and specifications
- Have a general understanding of project budget
- Generate project punch list and closeout documentation
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in engineering or technical school diploma and extensive practical project engineering experience on applicable project work
- 8+ years of work experience in engineering, construction, or other related technical field with increasing levels of responsibility and development considered an advantage
- 4+ years of experience as a Project Engineer in the industrial construction sector, with structural mechanical bulk material handling experience considered an advantage
- Experience managing multiple subcontractors of varying disciplines
- Excellent communication skills at all stakeholder levels – including suppliers and fabricators, field and office staff, consultancies, and clients and owners
- Strong grasp of engineering principles, particularly structural and mechanical
- Some electrical and instrumentation experience considered an advantage
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong work ethic - willing to do what it takes to get the job done
- Basic Navisworks and AutoCAD skills
- Proficient in MS Project, Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Outstanding time management, prioritization, multitasking, and organizational skills
This position is based onsite at the project location. The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical salary starting from $110,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, experience, and internal pay structures. As a part of NorLand’s total compensation package, this position is eligible for other benefits subject to program eligibility.
