Responsibilities include all aspects of material procurement, managing vendor relationships, and providing support and direction for the productions schedule. This role includes sourcing and purchasing products from vendors throughout North America.
Role Responsibilities
- Involved with sourcing, negotiating, buying, and expediting of raw materials (structural steel, steel pipe and plate, paint, plating), electrical components, finished goods (motors, compressors, valves, pumps, pipe fittings), outside services and production outsourcing, MRO items, and sub-contracted services (electrical, insulating, rigging and installation).
- Issuing purchase orders for the procurement of all items specified by engineering, manufacturing and ensuring on time delivery to support the production schedule.
- Frequent “rush” buying, last minute sourcing and expedited delivery to meet changing manufacturing deadlines.
- Ensure that all applicable products, vendors, and sub-contractors meet and comply with our safety policies as well as all provincial and federal safety policies and regulations.
- Resolve vendor product non-conformance issues.
- Ensure data integrity of order status within ERP and Production Schedule.
- Manage blocked invoices and resolve invoice discrepancies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Professional Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
- Previous buying experience in an Industrial / Manufacturing environment and experience with SAP is a strong asset.
- Mechanical aptitude or industrial technical knowledge a very strong asset.
- Accuracy and attention to detail is imperative.
- Good mathematical and analytical skills – able to calculate percentages; do conversions between metric and imperial system; basic volume, weight and area calculations.
- Excellent problem solving abilities.
- Be able to use existing trade sources and the internet to obtain product and/or vendor information.
- Self-motivated & autonomous.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Above average communications skills required.
- Post-Secondary Education preferred.
- Good command of MS Office applications (Excel, Word & Outlook) and basic typing skills/speed.
