RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Program Leader, the Program Manager will facilitate all aspects of the activities of the Research Program, including scientific and administrative. The Program Manager will act as the day-to-day facilitator between the Program Leadership, the Program members and their research teams, and RI-MUHC administration.

General Duties

  • Provides strategic advice to the Program Leader for developing, planning and implementing projects that will support the goals and priorities of the Program.
  • Facilitates the implementation of the Program’s research goals through team meetings, internal committees, research seminars and research days and other special activities.
  • Facilitates all aspects of research program activities, including: scientific, strategic, administrative, operational, financial and technical.
  • Establishes internal procedures to improve efficiency of the program general operations.
  • Facilitates the development of collaborative partnerships across various research constituencies within the Research Program, including research teams, investigators and external collaborators and partners.
  • Works closely with Pre-awards office and Business Development in expanding funding activities.
  • Plays a lead coordination role in the preparation of the Program’s major funding requests and self-educates to acquire and/or maintain knowledge of recurrent grant application guidelines (e.g., CFI, CIHR and other team grants).
  • Searches for targeted and individualized sources of funding.
  • Supports researchers in grant applications including administrative or scientific internal review, budget review, answering any question related to a specific call. Sends targeted internal communication with key information on specific grant opportunities.
  • Oversees program reporting activities including finances, grants, policies, monitors projects that are critically important to both the Program and the strategic goals of the RI, validates key performance metrics provided by the Performance office, participates in the preparation of Program documentation included but not limited to: Scientific annual reports, FRQS, and SAC reports, RI-MUHC website, Program presentations.
  • Collaborates with senior management staff on special projects, provides operational insights on internal policies and protocols as well as challenges faced by Programs, identifies and/or develops creative and possible solutions to mitigate program or member problems.
  • Sits on and contributes to the various committees of the RI-MUHC, as applicable.
  • Works closely with other Program Managers on common initiatives, organizes and hosts monthly RI-MUHC Managers meetings.
  • Coordinates research space allocation for all Program members in need of space at CTB, provides advice for research space distribution and lab space management to the program leadership and implements Program space allocation decision, manages space allocated to the Program including trainees room, administrative desks, and flex workstations, participates in discussions and planning of renovations to the research space.
  • Manages Program common equipment, liaises with Technical Services and Biomedical Department as needed, aids Program members in the purchasing, financing, and maintenance of key research equipment.
  • Works closely with the Performance office to organize the Program review of the RI-MUHC studentship applications.
  • Oversees internal and external communications and facilitates the development of a Program specific communication strategy in collaboration with the Communication Department, prepares internal communication and promotional materials.
  • Shares best practices and resources to support specific Program directions and projects.
  • Facilitates community engagement.
  • Onboards research staff and trainees to the RI-MUHC and facilitates the identification of mentors.
  • Plans and accounts for the human, financial, and material resource allocation reserved for the Program.
  • Manages Program administrative staff including the program assistant(s) and/or technical coordinators and oversees Program administrative services offered.

Education / Experience

Education: Doctorate Degree
Field of Study: Cancer molecular biology with experience in molecular and/or genetic mechanisms underlying the etiology, development, progression, and/or treatment of cancer at the fundamental level.
Work Experience: Direct work experience in health science research.

Required Skills

  • Excellent French and English, spoken and written.

  • Strong writing skills with prior publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Problem assessment and problem solving abilities.

  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently or with teams with minimum direction and/or supervision.

Status: Temporary Full-Time (35-hour workweek) 1 year duration.
Pay Scale: $60,860.80 - $113,003.80/ yearly. Commensurate with education & work experience.
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Work Site: GLEN Site, 1001 boul. Decarie.
