Our role

As trusted environmental stewards, Department of Environment professionals are committed to a healthy, sustainable and prosperous Yukon. Our people are dedicated to keeping the air, land and water clean, the responsible management of wildlife and fostering opportunities to connect with nature. We enrich governance through building our relationships with Yukon First Nation and transboundary Indigenous partners and through the application of both science and traditional knowledge in our decision-making.

Your role

As the Program Coordinator, Human-Bear Conflict, you’ll support our vision and values through strategic collaboration with Yukon community members, Renewable Resource Councils, First Nations, municipal representatives, Government of Yukon biologists, and Conservation Officers to implement and oversee initiatives designed to mitigate human-bear conflicts.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, you’ll need to demonstrate how you meet the following qualifications in your resume. Be sure to highlight how the experience you have acquired aligns with the ‘must haves’ for this position, including the month and year for each work experience entry. Selection for further consideration is based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • A degree in education, biological sciences, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • Experience collaborating with partners and stakeholders (eg. First Nations, teachers, consultants, program experts) on program initiatives, and/or product development.
  • Experience coordinating, facilitating, and supporting meetings.
  • Experience managing programs/projects, including planning, scheduling, organizing logistics, and coordinating experts for program delivery.
  • Experience gathering, synthesizing, and evaluating information from diverse sources into relevant products (eg. options papers, best practices, developing educational resources).
  • Experience supervising or leading staff is an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the above qualifications may be equally considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Suitability

To support key objectives and strategic needs of this position, candidates will be assessed on the following:

  • Problem solving including excellent analytical and judgement skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and partner focus, to build effective working relationships inside and outside the organization.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the life history of native Yukon wildlife and their habitats.
  • Communication skills (written and oral) to document, present, and connect with various audiences including partners.
  • Cultural aptitude to apply knowledge and interpersonal skills that allow understanding, appreciation, and working closely with individuals from cultures other than their own.
