REDS Recreation

REDS Recreation is one of three pods (Athletics, Operations & Recreation) that make up the UNB REDS, the non-academic operations within the Faculty of Kinesiology. The Recreation pod includes all recreation programs: Memberships, Aquatics, Fee-Based, Group Fitness, Strength Centre, Personal Training, Fitness Testing, Intramural Sport, Open Recreation, and Sport Clubs (non-competitive).

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:15 am - 4:30 pm | 36.25 hours per week

Additional Working Conditions: Some evening and weekend work required.

Salary Range: $47,971 - $59,969 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Director, REDS Recreation, the Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementation and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Fee-Based and Group Fitness Programming.

  • Plan, implement and evaluate Fee Based and Group Fitness programs.
  • Coordinate annual fee-based programs (approximately 33 a week) and group fitness classes - land and aquatic (approximately 22 a week) which is diversified in ages, fitness levels and physical abilities.
  • Plan and execute workshops, special events and themed classes.
  • Carry out all administrative work related to program planning including on-line registration (Fusion), marketing materials, researching trends in fitness, managing communication with internal & external groups, reserving facility spaces, equipment procurement, inventory and program procedures.
  • Manage day-to-day challenges such as instructor replacement, facility and cleanliness issues, customer and staff feedback.
  • Prepare budgets, financial reports and participation reports as required.
  • Coordinate recruitment, hiring, training, supervising and mentoring part-time staff.
  • Work as a mediator, facilitator or coach in conflict situations.
  • Offer/organize professional development opportunities for staff to maintain certification/quality instruction - approximately (+/-) 22 Group Fitness and Fee Based Instructors and part-time program staff.
  • Organize teacher training (ex: Pilates Teacher training) and any associated agreements with external organizations.
  • Maintain staff records to ensure qualifications are up-to-date and on file.
  • Work with provincial fitness organizations as an advocate of certification.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to minimize risk and ensure safety within REDS Recreation programs.
  • Remain updated on staff training and policy review.
  • Assess and manage risk to ensure staff compliance with university's policies and procedures, including REDS operational policies and processes.
  • Lead Group Fitness Classes as required either scheduled or on a substitute basis (sometimes on short notice) for Cycling, Yoga, Aqua, Portable Equipment and Older Adult.
  • Participate in additional training/certifications as needed.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Undergraduate degree in Kinesiology (Recreation).
  • Minimum 2-year experience in an administrative setting.
  • Certification in group fitness & a minimum 2-year experience in teaching.
  • Minimum 2-year customer service experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Additional Strengths

  • Other certifications such as Yoga, Pilates, Older Adult would be considered an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Training in risk management for recreation organizations.
  • Demonstrated customer service and people skills.
  • Strong ability to manage conflicts and resistance.
