École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) is a rapidly evolving university in engineering and technology located in downtown Montreal. ÉTS offers undergraduate and graduate programs focused on applied engineering as well as state-of-the-art research infrastructure. OUR DESIGN DEPARTMENT

The ÉTS Design Department is looking for faculty members in User Experience (UX) Design with a specialization in one or more of the fields listed below. Candidates should ideally have relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate students. Successful candidates will play a central role in the launch of a bachelor's program aimed at training the next generation of UX designers in Quebec. The program will feature collaboration between the engineering and design disciplines and will draw on ÉTS's existing expertise in fields such as human-computer interaction, human factors, cognitive ergonomics, and sustainable development. The program will be housed in a new pavilion equipped with a prototyping workshop and spaces dedicated to virtual reality and user research.


ABOUT THE POSITION

We are looking for candidates whose research lies at the intersection of technology, society, and design, who think innovatively about technologies to design solutions in sectors such as health, education, culture, communications, and more. Successful candidates' research will be part of the department's overall commitment to promoting sustainable design with social impact.

Applications in design are welcome in one or more of the following specialties:

  • Design for public policies;
  • Material interface design;
  • Voice interface design;
  • Design for transition (digital materiality);
  • Sound design;
  • Human factors and ergonomics;
  • Qualitative or mixed methods from the social sciences;
  • Data science;
  • Cognitive science;
  • Design science as applied to academic research.

Strengths: knowledge of maker culture, enthusiasm for prototyping of all kinds, ability to collaborate.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As part of a dynamic research team, you will:

  • Teach at undergraduate and graduate levels in one or more of the fields mentioned above;
  • Supervise master’s and doctoral students;
  • Undertake a research process and request the necessary funding from Quebec, Canadian or international government organizations, industrialists, municipalities, or foundations;
  • Carry out subsidized or contractual research projects with industry and workplaces;
  • Develop research programs.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates must hold a doctorate (PhD) in a relevant field (design, computer science, engineering, human science, cognitive sciences, psychology);
  • Demonstrate aptitude or interest in teaching;
  • Have industrial experience or research experience in close collaboration with industry (an asset);
  • Be proficient in French (oral and written), in compliance with the ÉTS Language Policy (in French), or demonstrate a willingness to learn French and enter into a French learning program with the support of ÉTS.

This is a tenure-track position. The process and benefits will be determined in accordance with the applicable collective agreement convention collective de l’Association des professeurs de l’ÉTS (APÉTS).
