We are currently recruiting a Production Supervisor (Evenings) at our Winnipeg, Manitoba location.

This position will report to the Production Managers. The primary role of the Production Supervisor is to maximize the level of operational and quality performance by ensuring that the day-to-day production plan is carried out on schedule, meets daily goals, and maintains consistent product quality and integrity during the manufacturing process. The Production Supervisor will directly supervise and coordinate production operations and staff in a manner that ensures a safe work environment, produces quality product, drives productivity, and maintains engagement and team focus.

This position is to contribute to the effective and efficient implementation of the production area’s operational plan by assisting the Production Managers in identifying and improving operational effectiveness and efficiency within all aspects of production. On occasion, the position may provide back-up for the Production Manager. As a member of the Production area management team, participates in department projects and initiatives.

This position will be scheduled from Sunday to Thursday, 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm to support a 24/7/365 operation.

Production Operations

  • Organize, deploy, and measure weekly/day-to-day production for the shift and consult with the Production Manager regarding production schedules, staff requirements, equipment repairs, and other production concerns.
  • Ensure the daily production plan is carried out on schedule and consistent product quality/integrity is manufactured.
  • Work towards the attainment of production goals, objectives, and standards without compromising food safety and quality.
  • Respond to routine operational issues including troubleshooting mechanical and technical issues. Ensure routine maintenance checks assigned to production are completed.
  • Implement the correction of product problems and process deficiencies.
  • Manage controllable elements of cost to attain or exceed budget targets.
  • Reduce scrap rates and improve mass balance measurement (e.g., process, equipment, staff).
  • Manage inventory of consumables ensuring costs are within budget.
  • Ensure production operations documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner. Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records.
  • Track and report daily production results. Review batch records, audit accuracy of production records, follow up on irregularities.
Quality and Customer Focus

  • Assure product quality by practicing and enforcing HACCP, Food Safety, and ISO requirements in all aspects of plant production. Respond to audit requirements as necessary.
  • Develop SOPs for plant operations, train to SOPs, and ensure employee adherence to SOPs when performing job responsibilities and tasks.
  • Work collaboratively and maintain essential communications with other company departments to achieve plant operational results (e.g., Quality Assurance, Supply Management, Maintenance, Research & Development, and Human Resources).
  • Implement the correction of product problems and process deficiencies.
Leadership & Human Resources

  • Develop and maintain a team-based work environment by providing leadership, direction, coaching, training, and clear and consistent communication.
  • Identify, assemble, and manage human resources required to complete operational processes. Consult with Production Manager as required (e.g., work scheduling, performance development, employee relations).
  • Identify training needs and provide training for production staff. Share personal knowledge and skills to develop competence of staff.
  • Ensure a respectful, safe, and healthy work environment for production employees.
  • Apply company human resources policies and processes in an equitable and fair manner.
  • Assist in the development of positive cross-functional/department relationships.
Safe Work Environment

  • Foster safe work practices by enforcing standard safety procedures and, as required, develop and implement practical recommendations for safety practices.
  • Verify that no unsafe practices develop in the plant, perform periodic inspections, and enforce all policies and procedures related to employee safety in the work environment.
  • Required to be a certified level 2 or 3 First Aid.
Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to the maintenance of a Continuous Improvement environment.
  • Lead scorecard review meetings, develop action plans, and positively influence outcomes.
  • Apply lean manufacturing techniques and processes with staff (e.g., reduce wastes, problem solving, 5S workplace cleanliness and organization system).

  • Maintain updated knowledge and strong technical expertise of HACCP and ISO standards, regulations, and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate, industry, and regulatory standards required within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Deal with changes, delays, or unexpected events in a professional and timely manner.
  • Flexible and controlled under crisis situations.
  • Knowledge and application of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Problem solver with solid analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot as the need arises. Involve staff in the decision-making process.
Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of production manufacturing experience (preferably dairy operations and/or food production plant). Minimum two years in a team lead/supervisory role.
  • Relevant diploma/degree with a concentration in Science, Business or Engineering (food, manufacturing or process).
  • Experience working under a HACCP/ISO system and maintaining this system.
  • Results orientation with a disposition towards continuous improvement.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management/priority setting skills, and knows how to make the right decisions.
  • Experience in a culturally diverse work environment.
  • Working proficiency with MS Office applications.
