POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Production Supervisor is responsible for managing and overseeing daily production activities in a corrugated manufacturing plant. This role ensures that production schedules are met on time and within budget while maintaining the highest safety, quality, and operational standards. Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor acts as a key leader on the production floor, ensuring that all manufacturing processes run smoothly and efficiently. Tasked with allocating resources effectively, monitoring equipment performance, and resolving any issues that may disrupt workflow. Additionally, this role involves close collaboration with other departments, such as maintenance, sales service, and logistics, to align production goals with overall business objectives.
KEY RESULT AREA (KRA):
1. OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT (Weighting 30%)
Day-to-Day Production Supervision
- Oversee and manage the entire production process, ensuring efficient use of time and resources to meet production schedules. This includes assigning tasks to team members, monitoring progress, and adjusting plans as necessary to meet deadlines.
- Continuously track production output to confirm adherence to quality specifications and customer expectations. Develop action plans to address any discrepancies or delays.
- Plan and organize workflow to optimize efficiency and minimize idle time for both equipment and personnel. Ensure that machinery is utilized to its full potential without overloading, and production lines are synchronized to avoid bottlenecks.
- Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, components, and finished goods, coordinating with procurement and logistics teams to ensure availability and prevent overstock.
- Work closely with the maintenance team to develop preventive maintenance schedules, minimizing unplanned downtime. Promptly address and escalate machinery or equipment malfunctions to avoid disruptions to production.
Communication & Reporting
- Act as a liaison between the Production team and other departments, such as logistics, maintenance, sales service, and sales to ensure smooth coordination and information flow.
- Prepare and maintain detailed production reports, including metrics on output, efficiency, downtime, and resource utilization.
- Communicate production updates, challenges, and proposed solutions to the Production Manager and other stakeholders in a timely manner.
2. QUALITY ASSURANCE & SAFETY COMPLIANCE (Weighting 30%)
Quality Assurance
- Establish and uphold stringent quality control standards throughout the production process, ensuring that every product leaving the facility meets customer and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular inspections and testing of products and processes to detect defects or deviations early. Document findings and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Engage employees in quality initiatives by training them to recognize quality standards, encouraging accountability, and rewarding achievements in quality improvement.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify areas for process optimization, such as reducing waste, enhancing workflow, and improving resource allocation.
- Champion Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including 5S practices, to maintain an organized and efficient work environment.
- Use production data and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of improvement efforts, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure sustained progress.
3. TEAM LEADERSHIP(Weighting 25%)
- Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to achieving organizational goals. Foster a culture of mutual respect and accountability within the team.
- Regularly communicate job roles, expectations, and performance targets to team members, ensuring alignment with company objectives. Use team meetings, individual feedback sessions, and performance reviews to keep employees informed and motivated.
- Provide ongoing training programs tailored to individual and team needs, helping employees build skills that contribute to personal growth and organizational success. Encourage cross-training to create a more flexible workforce.
- Address employee concerns and performance issues in a constructive manner. Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure disciplinary actions, if necessary, are handled in accordance with company policy.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain detailed and accurate production reports, providing insights into performance metrics such as throughput, efficiency, and downtime. Use these reports to inform operational decisions and communicate with management.
- Oversee employee attendance, ensuring timecards are accurate and submitted promptly. Address issues such as absenteeism or tardiness in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Provide support in the management of shift schedules, balancing staffing needs with budget constraints while ensuring adequate coverage during peak periods.
- Support the hiring process by participating in interviews, providing feedback on candidates, and ensuring new hires receive comprehensive onboarding and training.
4. SAFETY COMPLIANCE(Weighting 15%)
- Promote a culture of safety by implementing company policies, conducting regular safety audits, and modeling best practices. Emphasize the importance of individual and collective responsibility in maintaining a safe workplace.
- Identify and mitigate workplace hazards by regularly inspecting the production area, documenting findings, and implementing corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigations, ensuring all workplace accidents or near-misses are thoroughly documented and root causes identified. Use findings to implement preventive measures and communicate lessons learned to the team.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to complete Worker’s Compensation related documentation.
- Organize and facilitate safety training sessions, ensuring all employees understand safety protocols, emergency procedures, and the proper use of protective equipment.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- A degree in manufacturing, engineering, business administration, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in a corrugated or packaging industry.
- Strong understanding of finishing processes and quality control standards.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve production issues effectively.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in using production management software and tools.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to spend extended periods on the production floor, including standing, walking, and climbing stairs as necessary.
- Capability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Tolerance for exposure to loud machinery, varying temperatures, and other environmental factors common in a manufacturing setting.
