Job Summary:

Reporting to the Production Manager, Standards, the Production Specialist is responsible for Standards’ digital asset authoring and creation tasks. This includes the accurate and timely creation, modification, and archiving of both English and French assets in various final formats while conforming to CSA production guidelines and best practices. Using advanced knowledge of authoring and publishing tools, graphic design applications and formatting requirements, the Production Specialist is responsible for designing or transforming content from raw or semi-complete format to high quality print and digital products. With this advanced knowledge, the Production Specialist is also responsible for generating or updating complex graphics and illustrations of various formats for standards, translation, and Standards product development and converting or updating text content into the appropriate digital format as required. Responsibilities require liaising primarily with Production Coordinators, Editors, Operational Process Improvement Manager, Project Managers, Instructional Designers, and other Standards Development staff.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Translates raw content and concepts into accurate infographics, data visualization components, illustrations, e-learning, XML, HTML and other formats.
  • Responsible for an efficient and accurate product build based on complex inputs, as well as editorial markup from committee members, project managers, translators, instructional designers, and editors.
  • Ensures the integrity of the digital asset repositories and metadata tagging.
  • Determines required digital file formats and is responsible for quality checking of own work.
  • Works with CSA’s publishing systems software and stays updated with developments.
  • Works closely with design and product partners to present content in dynamic and compelling ways to maximize engagement and consumption by target audiences.
  • Works closely with Product Development and Standards Development staff to give advice and expertise as required, as well as to execute on project tasks.
  • Ensures that all project procedures are met in accordance with departmental and divisional directives, guidelines, and best practices, and works closely with staff to meet project deadlines.
  • Quality checks own work to ensure it is correct and complete. May also perform quality check of other files as requested.
  • Manages and adjusts multiple priorities to meet tight deadlines and publication target dates.
  • Performs similar duties and special assignments as required.
  • Assists Operational Process Improvement Managers with testing and documentation for new initiatives and improvements related to digital asset authoring/creation, and related workflows.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains departmental training and process guides.

Education and Experience

  • 3 year Post Secondary degree/diploma and equivalent 3-year work experience required.
  • Strong experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud suite including Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop required.
  • Experience with XML-based digital publishing and Mathflow/MathML required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of various digital media including video, audio, broadcast, encoding, and other technologies and terminology is an asset.
  • Experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, ePub is an asset.
  • Experience with Articulate 360 and other e-learning tools is an asset.
  • Experience with content management systems and process management systems an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
  • Strong team player with keen attention to detail and proven independent problem-solving skills is mandatory.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - communicates effectively and professionally.
  • Candidates with proficiency in French will be given special consideration.
