Job Summary:

The Production Manager, Standards leads and manages the production function for CSA Group supporting the publishing, enhancement, and maintenance of standards-related product content. This role works with the Manager to identify, develop, and implement production strategies that prioritize product quality and delivery time within the Standards division. This role ensures that the production function follows industry best practices and leverages innovative workflows and technology tools to deliver high quality products on time and within budget. With direct oversight of Production Specialists and Coordinators, this role manages production tools, ensures the timeliness and integrity of the production process, and oversees quality assurance. As the subject matter expert, this role provides functional expertise to identify, research, and resolve complex problems. This role will also be responsible for decision making regarding internal and contracted production resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with manager to identify, develop, and execute the Publishing strategies that focus on on-time product delivery and product quality within the Standards Division
  • Accountable for the production of publications, training materials, graphics and illustrations and ensures that developed assets are properly built, named, tagged and maintained
  • Promotes the use of proper application of metadata and file naming conventions to comply with CSA Group guidelines
  • Accountable for the management of, integrity, and quality of electronic files, as well as compatibility with current digital rights management requirements.
  • Works closely and is jointly accountable with the Manager, Operational Process Improvement, to ensure the continuous maintenance and approval of CSA Group XML templates/stylesheets, including approval of requirements provided to external XML vendor(s).
  • Manages resources and processes to ensure products are accurately and efficiently translated for French publication, meet delivery timelines and budget, and terminology database is maintained
  • Ensures products are prepared and available for deployment on the CSA Store and delivery platforms, and manages the production team’s efforts for all pre- and post-production activities.
  • Is the subject matter expert and provides functional expertise to identify, research, and resolve complex problems
  • Provides strategic leadership and direction to Production team
  • Identifies and manages external resources such as production resources, printing vendors and other third-party content providers including Standards Development Organizations
  • Independently and effectively manages the associated resources, costs and negotiations for services with suppliers in compliance with plan, budget and CSA Group requirements as required. Provides input into the budgeting process as required.
  • Interacts independently with internal cross-functional team members to resolve issues or problems
  • Effectively resolves escalated vendor and/or customer issues and complaints
  • Responsible for planning and managing the production schedule to ensure on-time delivery of standards publications per the publication plan, working in conjunction with the Editorial Manager, tracks projects and monitors schedules while providing up-to-date status information
  • Directly oversees and effectively manages costs related to production resources and translation, and provides input into the budgeting process
  • Responsible for product publication scheduling in conjunction with the Editorial team, Standards Development, and Education teams.
  • Oversees production schedules for each project in conformity with the divisional publication plan, including priorities and rushes, tracks projects and monitors schedules
  • Recommends, develops and ensures the implementation of divisional and departmental procedures and processes governing workflow and quality as required.
  • Ensures compliance with CSA Group’s directives, guidelines, and operating procedures by ensuring that current practices are accurately recorded and taken into account during any revisions
  • Works with Policies and Procedures to ensure that CSA Group’s accreditation requirements are met, and that National Standards of Canada are processed in accordance with Standards Council of Canada requirements
  • Contributes to departmental, divisional, and corporate initiatives as required. Examples: Customer loyalty, continuous quality improvement, and process improvement (LEAN Initiatives)

Education & Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Management, Education Technology, or related experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in product management, or digital product development
  • 5-7 years of strong team leadership and change management experience
  • 3-5 years of managerial/supervisory experience

Skills:

  • Proven ability to manage conflicting priorities, resolve issues and facilitate positive systemic improvements
  • Bilingualism (English/French) an asset
  • Strong project management and organization skills
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, XML Technology, Arbortext, Mathflow/MathML is required
  • Database management and experience with database/spreadsheet applications required
  • Proficiency in word-processing and data entry in a Windows environment required
  • Experience with Alfresco and SAP an asset
