Production Manager

Reports to: Operations Manager

Status: Full-time

Job Scope:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the scope of this position is responsible for directing the production team to achieve standards related to cost, line efficiencies, waste, safety and productivity. This position is also responsible for directing overall plant efficiencies in a cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Manage the operations, tanker driving and sanitation staff, including planning workload and staffing schedules.
2. Communicate with Planning for effective and efficient scheduling of production.
3. Foster and maintain a positive labour relations environment by ensuring all employees are treated with respect, grievances are dealt with in a timely manner and employees are communicated with openly.
4. Participate in various employee relations matters, such as hiring, training and disciplinary processes.
5. Monitor and maintain inventory of packaging, labels and raw ingredients.
6. Maintain production PM programs, generate daily operating reports, as well as weekly production map.
7. Monitor and maintain the Quality, Food Safety and SQF systems.
8. Lead meetings and projects to optimize production operations.
9. Liaise with various external customers such as CFIA and local municipality officials.
10. Participate in the review and recommendation for capital expenditures.
11. Ensure and maintain quality and safety standards within the plant.
12. Responsible to train operators on all changes in the Food Safety & Quality system as communicated by Management and QA.
13. Attend prescribed courses and training as required.
14. Other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum 3 years post-secondary education or minimum 5 years of related experience.
2. Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a HACCP regulated dairy, food or beverage processing environment.
3. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to mitigate conflict and build teams.
4. Flexibility to adapt to a 24 hr/ 7 day operation schedule.
5. Solid knowledge of GMPs, including excellent sanitary habits and a strong understanding of HACCP and MSS as it applies to a food manufacturing environment.
6. Proficient computer abilities using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and D365.
7. Familiar with total quality management and continuous improvement processes.
8. Good decision-making & problem-solving capabilities.
9. Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
10. Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task.
11. Physically capable of performing the demands of the job.
12. Must be punctual and diligent.
