Production Manager

Position Overview

APEX is currently accepting applications for a Production Manager within its Custom Contract Manufacturing Group. This is a full-time, permanent position reporting to the Operations Manager.

The primary function of this position is to ensure the smooth, efficient, and cost-effective operation of production activities. This position balances resource management, team leadership, process optimization, and safety compliance to meet company objectives. Some overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

1. Utilize software to develop production schedules to meet production goals.
2. Manage production capacity (including workforce) and forecast demand.
3. Monitor production workflows and adjust as necessary to ensure timelines are met.
4. Anticipate potential disruptions in production (e.g., machine breakdowns, material shortages) and support the development of contingency plans.
5. Coordinate with other departments to ensure alignment in production and supply chain activities.
6. Identify improvements for increase efficiency, waste reduction, and lower production costs.
7. Foster a positive work environment and encourage teamwork and accountability.
8. Ensure employee safety and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (CCOHS) standards or equivalent regulations.
9. Implement Lean Manufacturing principles to streamline operations.
10. Help develop & monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as production output, product quality, capacity utilization, etc.
11. Evaluate new technologies or machinery that could enhance productivity or reduce costs.
12. Ensure products meet quality standards by enforcing strict quality measures throughout production.
13. Support inventory control to prevent shortages or overstock situations.
14. Optimize shop supply stock levels (working with vending suppliers) to support production.
15. Support inbound and outbound activities for timely delivery.
16. Prepare and present reports on production performance, labor utilization, and cost where necessary.
17. Analyze production data to identify trends, issues, and areas for improvement.

Requirements

1. A bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, operations management, or a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in manufacturing, including supervisory and/or management roles such as operations supervisor, plant supervisor, or similar positions.
2. Skills to manage production timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
3. Ability to analyze production metrics and use them to make informed decisions.
4. Strong understanding of production machinery, tools, and manufacturing processes.
5. Ability to motivate and manage production teams effectively.
6. Confidence to make critical production-related decisions quickly.
7. Ability to respond to changing production demands or unforeseen challenges.
8. Capable of managing complex schedules and resources effectively.
9. Expertise in using SYSPRO ERP software and scheduling platforms.
10. Knowledge of quality assurance tools and processes.
11. Expertise in health & safety policy and compliance.
