POSITION SCOPE

The Production Manager for Malting will oversee the entire malting process, ensuring compliance with customer-specific requirements, managing blending, inventory, and shipping, as well as providing direct leadership at the plant. This position reports to the Plant Manager and collaborates with the plant leadership team on various aspects, including safety, employee engagement, organizational culture, sustainability, and overall operational needs. The role entails offering guidance to production supervisors and providing coaching and mentoring to enhance their leadership capabilities for the production workforce on the front line.

Responsibilities

  • Blending requirements, meeting customer specifications, overall malt quality, developing and implementing production schedules.
  • Champion a zero-harm culture; responsible for supporting all EHS initiatives by providing leadership for all policies and procedures and continually improving safety records and employee safety attitudes and behaviours.
  • Manage day-to-day production requirements.
  • Partner with the maintenance department to ensure timely and successful maintenance shutdowns, repairs, and problem solving.
  • Recruit, hire, engage, retain, and develop employees.
  • Manage daily operations shipping requirements.
  • Oversee inventory requirements, challenges, and process.
  • Manage union representative relationships, interpret, and adhere to collective agreement, manage grievances and any issues arising from employees.
  • Oversee plant tours, inspections, and audits.
  • Develop and maintain strong employee relations within all levels of the company, while also motivating, coaching, and developing a diverse, high-performing leadership team.
  • Lead the implementation of new manufacturing initiatives, including strategic resource allocation and applying continuous improvement principles for improved efficiencies.
  • Partner with appropriate parties to develop, implement, and manage operations standards to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact.
  • Participate in defining and implementing capital investment projects, planning and budget controls.
  • Participate and lead production communication sessions: Town Halls.

Education & Experience

  • BS or BA in Operations Management or Food Science equivalent education preferred.
  • Proven operations leadership experience.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience.
  • Safety leadership experience in an operational environment.
  • Knowledge of the malting/brewing process.
  • Agriculture experience considered an asset.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Travel on foot is required throughout the site. In operation buildings employees are required to access multiple levels using stairs, elevators, and ladders. Work will be a combination of indoor and outdoor environment. Work must be performed in all weather conditions, dusty, wet and other conditions.
  • Working conditions in various areas of the plant may expose the worker to mild levels of sulphur dioxide, sodium hypochlorite, mild levels of H2S and dust. Personal protective equipment must be worn during such exposures to mitigate these risks.
  • On call rotation required.
