Production- Lead Hand

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Production Lead Hand assists the Production Supervisor in coordinating and overseeing daily production activities. This role involves leading a team of production workers, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently, and maintaining a safe and productive work environment. The Lead Hand serves as a point of contact for team members and helps resolve operational issues as they arise.

Operations:

1. Perform Pre-Operational and Operational Inspections of processing room in the absence of Supervisor.
2. Assist Supervisor in delegating or coordinating team member/staff job duties of the day.
3. Monitor inventories and supplies and report any shortages, short date and damaged product to Production Supervisor.
4. Ensure all products are available in daily production of sandwiches, desserts and other products for the day’s production. Ability to be proactive in preparation of the next day's schedules.
5. Check finished product for correct labelling and overall appearance. Oversee the cleanliness and organization/sanitation of production area.
6. Maintain courteous, positive, and respectful communication to staff at all times.
7. Assist supervisor in the team’s ability to meet production goals, including units per hour and team motivation.
8. Provide support in the flow of first in first out of raw materials on production floor with accurate lot codes.
9. Work side by side with team members of sandwich production while mentoring new employees.
10. Position may require other job duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Quality and Food Safety:

1. Ensure HACCP and SQF compliance.
2. Assist Food Center Manager in internal audits as required.
3. Maintain all QA records for production team as required.
4. Perform Weekly/ as required Swab Product Testing and send samples to designated laboratory for testing.
5. Send finished product for testing as required by Food Center Manager.
6. Perform verification on Metal Detectors during line checks.
7. Calibrate scales on a daily basis and verify recipe weights.
8. Perform temperature checks for all areas in production.

Human Resources & Safety:

1. Follow HR practices and procedures for positive discipline. Provide regular motivational and corrective feedback to employees as required.
2. Assist Production Supervisor in updating SDS and attending Health and Safety Meetings monthly, ensuring all Health and Safety Regulations and Requirements are followed and met daily.
3. Promote and display proactive, positive leadership qualities to the team.
4. Give direction-guidance to warehouse staff and drivers on performance, training, and positive discipline.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

1. Minimum grade 12 or equivalent.
2. Relative experience.
3. Lead Hand skills and experience.
4. Communication skills.
5. Demonstrates leadership.
6. Ability to effectively train other team members.
7. Follow policy and procedures.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/TRAVEL:

1. Reading- High School.
2. Writing- High School.
3. Math- High School.
4. Equipment- Fax, copier, wrapping machine, slicing machine, sealing machine, metal detectors, conveyor belts, flow wrappers, hoppers.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to work in a cold environment. Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. to a maximum of 40 lbs.
