POSITION PURPOSE:
The Production Lead Hand assists the Production Supervisor in coordinating and overseeing daily production activities. This role involves leading a team of production workers, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently, and maintaining a safe and productive work environment. The Lead Hand serves as a point of contact for team members and helps resolve operational issues as they arise.
Operations:
- Perform Pre-Operational and Operational Inspections of processing room in the absence of Supervisor.
- Assist Supervisor in delegating or coordinating team member/staff job duties of the day.
- Monitor inventories and supplies and report any shortages, short date and damaged product to Production Supervisor.
- Ensure all products are available in daily production of sandwiches, desserts and other products for the day’s production. Ability to be proactive in preparation of the next day's schedules.
- Check finished product for correct labelling and overall appearance. Oversee the cleanliness and organization/sanitation of production area.
- Maintain courteous, positive, and respectful communication to staff at all times.
- Assist supervisor in the team’s ability to meet production goals, including units per hour and team motivation.
- Provide support in the flow of first in first out of raw materials on production floor with accurate lot codes.
- Work side by side with team members of sandwich production while mentoring new employees.
- Position may require other job duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Quality and Food Safety:
- Ensure HACCP and SQF compliance.
- Assist Food Center Manager in internal audits as required.
- Maintain all QA records for production team as required.
- Perform Weekly/ as required Swab Product Testing and send samples to designated laboratory for testing.
- Send finished product for testing as required by Food Center Manager.
- Perform verification on Metal Detectors during line checks.
- Calibrate scales on a daily basis and verify recipe weights.
- Perform temperature checks for all areas in production.
Human Resources & Safety:
- Follow HR practices and procedures for positive discipline. Provide regular motivational and corrective feedback to employees as required.
- Assist Production Supervisor in updating SDS and attending Health and Safety Meetings monthly, ensuring all Health and Safety Regulations and Requirements are followed and met daily.
- Promote and display proactive, positive leadership qualities to the team.
- Give direction-guidance to warehouse staff and drivers on performance, training, and positive discipline.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum grade 12 or equivalent.
- Relative experience.
- Lead Hand skills and experience.
- Communication skills.
- Demonstrates leadership.
- Ability to effectively train other team members.
- Follow policy and procedures.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/TRAVEL:
- Reading- High School.
- Writing- High School.
- Math- High School.
- Equipment- Fax, copier, wrapping machine, slicing machine, sealing machine, metal detectors, conveyor belts, flow wrappers, hoppers.
PHYSICAL EFFORT/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to work in a cold environment. Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. to a maximum of 40 lbs.
