The Production Engineer provides engineering support to the business unit for all aspects of component repair related to the development of minor repairs and continuous improvement programs. You’ll collaborate with other departments to ensure that our products and services meet the highest industry standards and maintain compliance with relevant airworthiness and contractual requirements.

Specific Accountabilities

SMS (Safety Management System):

  • Recognizes and understands flight safety critical parts and processes.
  • Responsible for reporting flight safety concerns.
  • Participates in proactive risk analysis of flight safety critical parts and processes.

Production Support:

  • Provides day-to-day technical support for Component Reworks cells.
  • Acts as a conduit between the business unit and organizational functions (customer service, operations, quality, service engineering, process engineering, and technical airworthiness group) in resolving technical production problems.
  • Owns, generates, maintains, and updates Reworks Process Instruction (RPIs), Temporary Overhaul Data Revisions (TODRs), and matrix codes related to repair.
  • Prepares production routings and detailed repair instructions based on technical data.
  • Writes technical reports and proposals; develops work instructions.
  • In compliance with company instructions and the Design Approval Organization, executes MRB documentation and NCTs, TODRs, and Temporary parts list revisions (TPLRs).
  • Provides process-related training with other support personnel.

Repair Development and Implementation:

  • Determines the actions necessary to develop new repairs from engineering data.
  • Contributes to the planning and repair trials to generate data for new repairs or to support existing repairs. Analyzes and documents the results of repair trials.
  • Proposes, researches, and performs cost benefit analysis for new equipment purchases.
  • Acts as a liaison to coordinate the activities of Engineering and Operations during the implementation of new repairs and processes.

Process Control and Improvement:

  • Analyzes, develops, and recommends methods to meet production requirements, improve economy and quality, and reduce turn-around times for products and/or processes with supporting cost analysis.
  • Establishes, analyzes, and acts upon measures of performance related to processes.
  • Investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies relating to equipment and processes to reduce variation and improve reliability.

Other:

  • Coordinates and interacts with outside resources including contractors, equipment vendors, and supply vendors for process support, improvement, or repair development.
  • Provides support, technical expertise, and experience to the Design Approval Organization (DAO) necessary to make airworthiness engineering decisions.
  • Remains current with state-of-the-art technologies and processes.
  • Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
  • Carries out special projects as assigned.

Basic Qualification

  • Degree or Diploma in aerospace, mechanical, or metallurgy engineering, or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong project management, planning, organizational, analytical, leadership, interpersonal, decision-making, oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of gas turbine/accessory design theory, basic machine shop practices, basic gas turbine metallurgy, and familiarity with engine manuals.
  • Knowledge of precision measuring instruments and the ability to interpret drawings.
  • Knowledge of failure modes and effects analysis.
  • Knowledge of quality requirements as they pertain to airworthiness and contractual requirements.
  • Experience in an aerospace or manufacturing process engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials and remanufacturing processes (e.g. welding, thermal spray, metal removal, heat treatment, bench operations, plating, painting, etc.).
