Job description

PetroChina Canada (PCC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of PetroChina Company Limited which is partially owned by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a state-owned enterprise. CNPC is China's largest oil company and the world's third largest oil company, operating 91 energy-related projects in over 35 countries and regions. PCC has invested billions of dollars in an asset-rich portfolio of upstream, midstream and downstream operations. In Alberta, this includes our MacKay River and Dover oilsands projects, Duvernay Shale Gas and a 50% interest in the Grand Rapids Pipeline. In British Columbia, we hold joint venture interests in the Groundbirch tight gas project and LNG Canada.


The Production Engineer will work closely with the asset teams to support projects related to the development and production of unconventional gas for PetroChina Canada.

Accountabilities:

  • Understand and interpret production engineering data, including identification and troubleshooting where required.
  • Provide production engineering support to the technical and greater Duvernay asset teams, including well testing management, strategy development for workover readiness, production enhancement opportunities, and development of well programs and database updates.
  • Coordinate and participate in regular field, pad, and well reviews.
  • Support work related to Artificial Lift life cycles and applications.
  • Work with Field Operations staff and engineering teams to ensure all maintenance requirements are met from both a safety and compliance perspective and well integrity management programs are maintained.
  • Support Field Production Engineering initiatives (some travel to site will be required).
  • Maintain AER regulatory compliance and address all regulatory issues.
  • Support and/or manage coordinating new tie-ins with Field/Completions/Facilities/Third Parties (where applicable).
  • Enhance the unconventional gas well operating procedures.
  • Aid in the building and distribution of various reports required.
  • Steward, support and understand SCM and procurement processes.
  • Provide operational input to Automation and Data Management process.
  • Provide supportive budgeting for production, operating costs, and associated capital projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
  • APEGA certification.
  • 8+ years’ experience in unconventional production engineering; experience in the Montney or Duvernay Resources would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to utilize engineering concepts to review well production data and trend analysis.
  • Production troubleshooting when faced with a variety of issues related to downhole and surface operations and their interactions.
  • Natural flow and Artificial Lift understanding.
  • Ability to identify production improvement opportunities, including development of execution plans.
  • Field engineering experience an asset.
  • Ability in project management.
  • Demonstrated business acumen for economic recommendation of projects.
  • Versed in computer applications related to production/reservoir work.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills complemented with a strong work ethic and initiative.
  • Measurement, SCADA experience an asset.
  • Ability to work with multi-disciplinary groups from technical to operations teams.
  • Adoption and demonstration of PCC values (Honourable, Unified, Passionate, Accountable).
