Overview: The Production Engineer will play a key role in optimizing well performance and supporting operational excellence at Greenfire. This position requires a hands-on, technically focused individual who can integrate engineering knowledge with day-to-day field operations in a SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) environment. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the Production Engineer will contribute to the analysis, optimization, and planning of production strategies, while supporting regulatory compliance and driving continuous improvement. This is a permanent, full-time position based at Greenfire Resources' Calgary office, with occasional fieldwork as required, based on operational needs and management discretion.
Reporting to: Director, Production
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide production engineering expertise within a multi-disciplinary team to monitor, analyze and optimize SAGD well production.
- Collaborate and maintain a strong interface with Operations and Maintenance regarding the day-to-day well management to meet production targets, troubleshooting and scheduling of well-related field activities.
- Support a multi-disciplinary engineering and operations team to identify areas for optimization, both subsurface and surface.
- Identify and recommend new technologies to improve the SAGD recovery process.
- Analyze and review steam injection and return rates, down hole, surface temperatures and pressures of all instrumentation during production.
- Execute the well test program for gathering oil cuts, flow rates, and solids production and identify areas for optimization.
- Participate in short and long-term planning, as well as assessing and making recommendations for capital projects.
- Act as a technical resource and provide support and direction, where required, to operations and other teams.
- Ensure all corporate and regulatory standards are properly interpreted to minimize risk of non-performance, incidents, damage to the environment or other loss of value.
- Responsible for upkeep of daily and monthly production reporting.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, APEGA registration required.
- 5-10 years of engineering experience with extensive experience in SAGD.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of related disciplines would be an asset: Drilling, completions and facilities engineering; Artificial lift systems (e.g. rod pumps, gas lift and ESP systems); Subsurface wellbore design; Thermodynamics and fluid dynamics.
- Experience with oilfield software packages for production accounting, drilling & completions data management, and data visualization are considered an asset (e.g., Wellview, Spotfire, Prodview, PI & Parcview).
- Strong ability to analyze and problem solve.
- An ability to marry operational decisions with resulting economic impact.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Must hold a valid Class-5 driver’s license.
- Must be legally permitted to work in Canada.
