JOB DESCRIPTION

Location:
Hybrid (Downtown, Toronto)
Duration: 12 months

Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Product Owner - Advanced to be responsible for the product vision, establishment, communication, stakeholder management, and product success. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in role:

  • Manage day-to-day operation of Bank's Wealth Management’s global public web properties as a partner to global marketing teams. Tasks can include, but are not limited to platform readiness activities, issue solutioning, stakeholder management, digital content, and campaign delivery.
  • Own the responsibility for building the right product and to be the voice of the customer (e.g. external customer, internal operations user, etc.) to the team.
  • Ensure optimal Feature delivery; the product owner collaborates with the product manager to align to features and outcomes.
  • Participate in sprint planning and own the product backlog for a low-medium complexity product being developed by the team on behalf of the line of business they represent.
  • Perform typical product owner duties on lower complexity initiatives, collaborate with a senior product owner on higher complexity initiatives in support of the design, development, and delivery of their product.
  • Success in this role is measured in terms of maximizing ROI and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop product recommendations based on customer feedback, User experience (UX) interpretation of customer feedback, commercial/technical/legal assessments, and leveraging their own domain of experience.
  • Ensure the right product is built, creating user/customer value while meeting the needs of the LoB stakeholders for a product.
  • Understand and represent/convey the vision to the scrum team.
  • Understand the strategy and product roadmap to ensure product backlog prioritization is in alignment with the roadmap timing of customer-facing features/functionality.
  • Support the creation of the strategy/roadmap that contributes to the product's revenue and profitability targets.
  • Assist the development of business cases.
  • Identify product opportunities and challenges and recommend expanding product offerings to ensure competitive positioning.
  • Refine and prioritize the product backlog, including non-functional requirements, on a regular basis in collaboration with the team such that it mitigates operational/technical/financial risk, accelerates team learning, achieves expected outcomes, and optimizes the value of the work performed.
  • Prepare and maintain the overall success of sprint planning for a product.
  • Ensure in advance that there are enough ready User Stories in the product backlog at all times and that the Product backlog is visible and transparent.
  • Ensure User stories are well-formed; meet the “definition of ready”, detailed acceptance criteria, clear to all, etc.

Must-Have Skills:

  • Strong time management and organization skills, Advanced problem solving ability, strong communication and stakeholder management.
  • 5 to 9 years of product management or agile development experience, two of which are in relevant product/service domain.
  • Business experience, preferably within the financial industry and relevant line of business.
  • Experience with the agile process.

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Product Ownership (CSPO) experience.
  • Financial industry experience.
  • Technical solutioning.

Soft Skills Required:

  • Communication, presentation skills, conflict resolution/problem solving.

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
