About The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Procurement Specialist to join our Supply Chain Management (SCM) team. This is a full-time role based in our head office in downtown Calgary with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office & 2 days at home). Reporting directly to the Manager, Growth Supply Chain Management, this role involves sourcing, negotiating contracts, managing vendor relationships, procurement and purchase order management in support of the Company goals. What You Will Do
- Build vendor relationships and collaborate with growth project teams and external stakeholders to ensure TransAlta's investments achieve superior returns over the life of the facilities.
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers to secure favorable terms, including pricing, delivery schedules, and payment terms, and mitigate risks associated with supply chain disruptions.
- Manage the bid process by preparing requests for quotations and proposals (RFQs and RFPs), analyzing bids, and working in collaboration with the cross-functional evaluation teams to select the best suppliers.
- Administer post-award contracts, ensuring effective change management, contract compliance, and timely resolution of any contractual disputes or issues.
- Review and process purchase requests from internal stakeholders, preparing, sending and filing purchase orders accurately.
- Build trust and strong relationships with key, cross-functional stakeholders and business sponsors through competency, collaboration, integrity, and transparency.
- Provide input into new supply chain procedures, processes, and playbooks.
- Engage with key contractors and vendors to TransAlta’s business and ensure relationships and communications are well managed and understood.
- Work through problem resolution to mitigate invoice payment.
- Analyze historical costs, capital plans, bid rates on external spend items such as equipment, bulks, parts and services and recommend sourcing strategies.
- Identify cost and process improvement opportunities.
What We Need From You- 6-8+ years’ relevant work experience in Supply Chain Management.
- Degree in Supply Chain Management, business, technical-related field or equivalent.
- Proven experience in procurement of services and materials in Energy, Utility & or EPC industries.
- Ability to run negotiations with multiple stakeholders with a keen understanding of the negotiation process.
- World class communication with the ability to negotiate, develop strategies and evaluate proposals.
- Experience with SCM processes, practices, metrics and relationship management.
- Demonstrated capability to understand and manage risk effectively, balancing business requirements.
- Solid computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); SAP, Wave, SharePoint.
- Demonstrated ability to balance several dealings at once and identify key legal and commercial issues.
- Ability to travel as needed for in person representation with vendors and for governance assurance across operating sites and EP houses.
