Job description

Come make your difference in communities across Canada, where authenticity, trust and making connections is valued – as we shape the future of Canadian retail, together. Our unique position as one of the country’s largest employers, coupled with our commitment to positively impact the lives of all Canadians, provides our colleagues a range of opportunities and experiences to help Canadians Live Life Well.

At Loblaw Companies Limited, we succeed through collaboration and commitment and set a high bar for ourselves and those around us. Whether you are just starting your career, re-entering the workforce, or looking for a new job, this is where you belong.

Role Overview:

Reporting directly to the VP of Fresh Procurement, you will be responsible for the growth, development and operational success of a new business, called “Synergy Sourcing”, that utilizes Loblaw’s enterprise scale and global reach to provide domestic and offshore sourcing – and other peripheral value-added services – to a growing list of external corporate customers. You will leverage our national and international supplier network to build a strong and expanding customer base for the business; and propose/establish process management practices to ensure long term sustainability.

What You’ll Do:

  1. This role will focus on acquisition of new customers, onboarding activities including contract management, collaboration with Procurement Directors to support product negotiations and supply forecasting, partnering with Finance and Loblaw Customs Compliance to manage ordering and invoicing details; and ensuring all product documentation, and accounts receivables are up-to-date and accurate.
  2. In this role, you will work closely with our Supply Chain, Transport and Distribution Centre Operations teams to coordinate product inbound and outbound management, based on customer requirements; and provide end-to-end white-glove service for customers resolving any product availability challenges and fulfilment obstacles.
  3. The successful candidate will be responsible for understanding customer sourcing strategies and inventory/production planning preferences; and for researching alternative sourcing markets – including industry trends, global product innovation and competitor benchmarking.
  4. You will be accountable for the financial success of the business with full ownership of P&L deliverables and budget obligations. In collaboration with the Vice President, you will establish monthly sales objectives and growth goals in coordination with the overall business plan and represent Synergy Sourcing across the enterprise.

What You’ll Need:

  1. An entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for growing a business; and capacity to work independently in a highly ambiguous environment.
  2. Post-secondary education in business or supply chain management; or equivalent industry experience.
  3. 5-10 years of sales experience and experience leading a team.
  4. Strong financial acumen with experience managing and reporting P&L.
  5. Well-developed influencing and relationship-management skills with a winsome communication style; and executive-level presentation skills.
  6. Problem solving and excellent decision-making skills.
  7. Strong level of resiliency and an ability to work at pace.
  8. Must be available for frequent national, and occasional international travel.
  9. Skilled in using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Highly Preferred:

  1. Experience in domestic and offshore sourcing – including commodity buying, vendor relationship and performance management, RFPs, costing negotiations, supply chain management, and/or quality assurance, will be considered an asset. Creative thinking and the ability to deal with complex negotiations with a wide range of strong personalities.
