TUQ4 is a specialized company dedicated to the decontamination and treatment of contaminated soil, soil-like materials (including sediment, rock, aggregates, and soil mixtures), and water. We utilize advanced physical, chemical (soil washing), stabilization, and heat treatment methods to deliver innovative solutions for treating contaminated soil.
We are seeking a hands-on Process Technologist with practical experience operating soil, aggregate, rock, pit, or quarry processing systems and equipment. While expertise in equipment design and performance optimization is beneficial, our primary focus is on candidates with direct operational/application experience.
The Process Technologist will take a hands-on leadership role in the selection, installation, operation, maintenance, and replacement of contaminated soil and water decontamination systems and equipment, with a strong emphasis on safety. They will also receive cross-training in decontamination techniques, including the use of process additives, chemical applications, and site material and construction management. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Site Manager, the Process Technologist will oversee all contaminated soil and water treatment activities, ensuring they align with company methodologies while meeting legal (including safety and compliance), financial, and scheduling requirements.
Responsibilities
The Process Technologist, under the direction of the CTO and/or Site Manager, will be responsible for ensuring that all plant processing day-to-day activities are conducted efficiently, effectively, safely and compliantly, which includes, but not limited to:
- Ensure that facility process operations, inclusive of applicable systems/equipment selection, installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and replacement, are conducted as scheduled, safely, on budget and at a minimum meet all regulatory/legal requirements.
- Ensure that all systems/equipment is properly applied, inclusive of additive/chemical use, to optimize process performance.
- Responsible for, with Site Manager support, the management and oversight of all process staff (millwrights/mechanics/technicians, labourers), including supervision of other TUQ4 personnel and retained contractors used to support process operations on as-needed basis.
- Maintain, with Site Manager, a database of all company process service providers for parts, materials, equipment requirements are maintained, subcontractors, and the like, in conjunction with accounting/procurement.
- Supervise all process related maintenance/repair/replacement contractors when on-site and ensure safety measures are met.
- Ensure that all process related quality assurance/control measures, including pre- and post-process sample collection and field and/or third-party laboratory testing are completed.
- Develop, under TUQ4 procurement approval with Site Manager, individual process project work scopes, acquiring project bids/quotes, delivery coordination, acquisition of all required permits/approvals, project budget management, and schedule/completion follow-up for regular reporting back to CTO.
- Maintaining an inventory, with Site Manager support, of third-party mobile ECAs potentially applicable for process use at the facility.
- Ensure completion of all required project treatability testing.
- Participating in daily site process operation plan meeting, inclusive of preparation, planning, implementation, monitoring, sampling/testing, measuring, and the like, with the CTO and/or Site Manager, including timely communication of any daily upsets, processing changes/modifications and the like to management.
- Participating as a leader in site safety, including the daily site "tailgate talk” and use of required personal protective equipment.
- Ensure daily operation log pertaining to facility processing is completed and maintained.
- Assist TUQ4 with any required site upset(s) mitigative measures planning, actions, and reporting.
- Ensure the facility operates in accordance with all terms and conditions of the operating approval.
- Ensure all on-site process equipment is maintained in operational condition and maintenance is completed on schedule/budget.
- Work with Site Manager on gathering required data and preparing monthly process operation key performance indicators (KPIs) reports.
- Any other task as requested by TUQ4 Management.
Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Technologist or equivalent post-secondary institution degree/diploma with applicable hands-on mechanical systems and equipment, preferably contaminated soil/water treatment and/or rock/pit/quarry/aggregate systems/equipment, operation/application experience.
- Able to work in Canada.
- Working in an ISO-conforming quality, health and safety and environmental management system business.
- Effective oral and written English communication.
Experience in the following would be an asset:
- Safety leadership in an industrial environment;
- Working, understanding and application of Ontario environmental soil and/or water quality regulations;
- Environmental laboratory sample collection and results interpretation;
- Earthworks, and efficient movement of soil and soil-like material in a safe manner;
- Operation or willingness to learn the operation of various types of construction;
- Supervising skilled trades workers and overseeing multi-trade subcontractors' performance during on-site process work;
- Assisting Accounting/Procurement with parts, tools, materials, equipment, and subcontractor procurement, including research/selection, and project management to completion of procurement tasks;
- Process quality assurance/compliance tasks/programs; and,
- Working in a strict regulatory compliance work environment.
