Job Description and Responsibilities
The Process Specialist provides technical support to the Red Deer Sr. Quality Manager and operations by ensuring quality standards are met through inspection planning, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role translates customer expectations into production and inspection requirements while driving product and process enhancements across pipe mill, heat treatment, threading, and finishing operations. Using data-driven analysis and collaboration with internal and external experts, the specialist identifies root causes, recommends solutions, and supports quality-related capital projects.
- Analyze process KPIs and trends, identifying improvement opportunities and supporting process troubleshooting.
- Drive process improvement initiatives, focusing on reducing top defects and improving overall product quality.
- Coordinate QA CAPEX projects, including the selection, installation, and commissioning of new equipment.
- Supervise lab and gauge room staff, ensuring safe work conditions and providing coaching, training, and performance feedback.
- Oversee calibration and repair of MTE, ensuring compliance with applicable standards.
- Review lab results for product release, ensuring compliance with specifications, and manage manufacturing order activations.
- Investigate supplier claims and non-conforming materials, recommending resolutions and handling additional assigned duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical or Materials Science Engineering preferred
- Desirable 3-5 years’ experience in metallurgy, pipe forming, welding, heat treating or threading
- Demonstrated experience using MS office tools and Minitab (or equivalent statistical analysis software) to analyze numerical data and draw conclusions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of API 5L, 5CT, CSA Z245.1 specifications an asset.
- Familiar with ISO Quality standards and Quality Management System
- Knowledge of steel mill processes and operations preferred
